I feel the rules changes are all for the better, and I agree w D-rock about the goalies padding. I could play goalie with some of those pads and probably stop a third of the shots.

Sidney is the real thing, i've been watching this guy for the last three years and he never failed. He will be playing with great players and he's living with Super Mario. This guy deserve all the hype in the world, the sport really needs that right now !
He'll win the Calder, easily and he will take the Pens deep in the playoffs, mark my words.

I was pissed that Hockey had a year long lock-out. On Thursday I went to a Atlanta Thrashers exhibition game and it was great. The players had alot of intensity and the fans that were there were happy it was back. The new rules do help the game in its intensity I believe.

I can't wait. Hopefully with Wayne Gretzky as the coach of the Coyotes they can do better and take a shot at their division. I am not expecting the Coyotes to do great but with all luck Brett Hull can help the team step up. Go COYOTES.

One of my least favorite sports, didn't mind the lockout last season. But I am interested to what rules changes they came up with to make the game better and more exciting.

What are the rule changes proposed/passed? More or less fighting?

They'll fill the bleachers if they make it like "Grand Theft Puck: Toronto." LMAO :D :1orglaugh :nanner:

Less fighting, the goal line has been moved 2 feet closer to the boards and the goalie has a area behind the net which he can safely handle the puck. The blue lines have been moved closer to center ice. Also if a team loses the puck in a oppenents zone then gets it back all they have to do is go skate back to the blue line tag it and keep going.

Well, there were 4 fights in tonights caps/pens game & a couple game misc.
Probably because all the "starters" were scratched  & all the eventual AHLers were vying for a slot on the bench. It was a scrappy game. Interesting to watch the new rules in effect. The ref's had to keep going to the icing team's bench & get the guys back on the ice who were on the shift when they iced the puck.

The Exhibition game I went to was pretty bad for penalities. At one point in time the Thrashers had 4 guys in the penatly box. 2 were in there for fighting.

I don't think they will ever totally get rid of fighting. The fans like it too much.

I hope not! I do miss watching the Probert vs. Domi battles :fight:

Fighting is just part of the game, gotta learn to live with it.

What happened to the NBA? :dunno:

It seems to be doing fine, and now they have their "2nd coming" in LeBron James. The guy is amazing and what's more hasn't gotten into any major legal problems. He donates to charity and seems wholesome. For God's Sake, he was on Oprah!

The NBA is on it's way down simply because the majority of stars in the league are coming from countries other then the US. American's love themselves, and that's why the NBA has a better following then the NHL. If the NHL had done a better job creating minor hockey in these "non traditional" markets, then their fan base would be so much better. Not only would they have created a better awareness about the game, they might be on the verge of seeing some truly great American born talent entering the league.

Hockey was huge in 1996, because the American's won the World Cup. However, since then, the US has done squat, and the interest has left. With the recent showings at the Olympics by the US in basketball, and the emergence of stars like Yao, Steve Nash, Dirk Novitski, they American's are in trouble.

BTW, Lebron James was on Oprah because he is black. Had James been any other colour, Oprah would have nothing to do with him. I'm sure if you did something note worthy, she'd have you on as well. I'd also like to add you should go back and watch either the MTVMA or the MTVVA if you think James is "wholesome". The way he behaved with Ashanti was disgusting.

As far as the NHL goes, can't wait. Sid the Kid will be awesome to watch, Iggy and the Flames will be back in the Final (and as long as Fraiser ain't the ref, will win it) and it looks like every Canadian team will be in the playoffs.

OK, Dirty Sanchez, I agree with your first two paragrpahs. Americans like to see American players, as do all countries. No problems their, and I agree that the International players are kind of a double-edged sword on the League.

Now, the "BTW" is where you lose me. First, LeBron James was on Oprah because he's a 20-year old multi-millionaire who hasn't gotten into any major legal problems which is what was assumed of him. The reason that the media wrote him off as a "thug" was because he's black, but that's beside the point. Now I'm not saying that his race had nothing to do with him being on Oprah. Oprah likes to have successful black people on the show to help disperse certain stereotypes and give a role model to others. She has, however, a number of people from every race on the show.

And, correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't LeBron James simply ask Ashanti for a kiss? What's so unwholesome about that :dunno: ? There has been much worse done on TV.

Agreed about the Oprah thing. But, my point was, don't put too much stock in the fact he was on the show. How many other athletes have been on her show, and how many weren't black?

As far as the James/Ashanti thng, well, I think you either need to watch it again, or for the first time, because the way he was acting was disturbing IMO. (in his defence, he was only 18 at the time, or so he'd have us believe. Personally, I think he is older then what they claim him to be) Now, maybe it has to do with me thinking Ashanti is one of the hottest women out there, but the way he went about trying to get the kiss, was all wrong. Asking once is fine (hell, I would have done the same), but asking over and over again, and not continuing on until she gave the kiss, then wanting more, was the part that bothered me.

Now, how the hell did a thread about the greatest team sport out there (and the most difficult to play) turn into a thread about the NBA?!?!??!

Back to hockey. The best thing for the NHL would be a Flames/Penguins final. A hard working Canadian team that was built from the ground floor against a small market US team who has the greatest offensive talent the game has ever seen, along side the future face of hockey.

Let the games begin.

It's on this year in Pittsburgh, we have the pieces to the fucking puzzle and we are gonna win the Cup.

No offence dude, but your team need at least one or two d-man before they can even think about winning the cup... ;)

Most teams need D too be good. The problem with the Pens is that they keep allowing Mario on the ice. I know he is the owner but tell the has been to get off the ice, that way they can get some good help.

I think the rule changes are great, i have watched alot of preseaon games, and the game is moving faster, teams seem more well balanced, and i cant wait for the season to begin....hot damn...THE NHL IS BACK....thank god....my fav sport.
