Any fight with 2 willing combatants is always acceptable and enjoyed IMO!!

jarkko and tuomo are brothers I take it? :dunno: not really familiar with either of them..

The only reason I know about this biting incident is because I was about too read an article about the NHL and other leagues possibly banning fighting because of the death of Don Sanderson!

and despite that terrible tragedy, and with my heart felt condolence's to his family and friends, I would never be a fan of the NHL if they banned fighting! I am sorry I don't glorify violence, nor do I like to see people permanently or seriously injured in a fight or due to a fight, but its been a part of the game since...well..um...forever... and if its ever changed they lose a die hard fan!! and that would be ME!! I am sure allot to most of the NHL die hards would not accept this either!!

Last but not least!! I am seriously DISGUSTED with the league's interpretation of its ALL-STAR game this year! not only do I NEVER watch it cuz its an insult to the true nature of hockey! (physical, intensity, and played with heart) the ingredients used to out play your opponents!

which the ALL-STAR game obviously lacks!! but too add insult too injury, they actually have the gall too feature mostly BLACKHAWKS and CANADIANS players as the starting lineup? despite all the other deserving ALL-STARS that are much better and more deserving than the players selected is just an ABSOLUTE TRAVESTY and SCARY BETTMAN needs too be relieved of his duties immediately IMHO!!

By all means brotha! speak your mind, don't let me hold you up! thats why this thread is here... elaborate on what I said! I was just getting a taste of everybodies thoughts on the issues!! so I will definately read ya! NHL is like my blood! if I don't have it, I don't live! atleast not happily!

I hope your for the most part in agreeance with me or I forsee a long and heated debate / discussion upcoming?:D

Please unleash your frustrations!! I will be waiting to read it later!:hatsoff:

And most people consider him the league champ. He's making Domi like money and not really earning it. As much as I hate to say it, sounds like Brashear is the league champ since Laraque hasn't done much in the past couple years.

Laraque is nowadays more sailing on his reputation than the real heavyweight champ of the NHL. Overrated as well for his hockey player capacities because he isn't training properly between seasons.

My personnal preference have always been Donald Brashear. This guy can fight as well as Laraque and he is also able to score some goals. He is not strictly an enforcer: he had seasons of 15+ goals in his prime.

Do you remember he was drafted and developped by the Habs? He had a clash with Mario Tremblay so the Habs traded him (and we haven't had a decent enforcer since)... Few weeks later, Mario Tremblay had a clash with Patrick Roy so the Habs traded him...

Yes. The Tremblay years costed Habs one of the most reliable enforcer of the league and (arguably) the best keeper in NHL History. :(

Having an enforcer on the team helps team confidence but if he's not there and some team members try to fill the void, they get their asses beat.

Kostopoulos and Begin are indeed filling the void and get their asses beat. But the courage of those two players bring more to our team confidence than the out-of-form Laraque.

Habs had to play without a real enforcer since the departure of Brashear... We really thought we finally filled the void with Laraque in Montreal. And it turns out to be a tremendous deception.

Laffs new player.

Brian Burke, president and general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, announced Wednesday that the hockey club has acquired forward Brad May from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for a conditional sixth round draft pick in 2010.

“Brad will provide character, toughness, and he is a proven winner,” said Burke. “We look forward to the veteran leadership that he will give our team.”

May, 37, was a member of the 2007 Stanley Cup champion Anaheim Ducks. This season he has played in 20 games for Anaheim collecting five assists with 28 penalty minutes and has registered a plus five (+5 ) rating.

In 963 career NHL games with Buffalo, Vancouver, Phoenix, Colorado and Anaheim, May has recorded 285 points on 126 goals and 159 assists, along with 2,121 penalty minutes.

I'm not really surprised that Brian Burke somewhat took Brad May with him to join the leafs. Brad May is the type of guy you want with you when you are going to War. Solid enforcer, excellent 4th liner, great leadership and personality.

A perfect addition to the young Leafs. Brad May will bring a lot to the team spirit and confidence

I think everyone who posted in the thread, so far, are agreeing on:

1- Remove the instigator rule and leaving players policing themselves
2- The way the starting lineup is decided for the All-Star game sucks
3- Bettman should be fired

We have maybe different reasons to think that way but that seems to make consensus here. Anyone is welcome to disagree tho, it could be interresting to debate on few things instead of agreeing! :hatsoff:

hey D, I wanted to give thanks but the board wouldn't let me. I'm glad that somebody follows hockey and fighting.

Dawn,

One of these days, we have to sit down with a beer and chat about the hockey situation. This whole ON, QC thing has to end.

yes. Jarkko is the agitating pest of the Senators and Tuomo is the respectable goal scorer of the Hurricanes.

they also have another brother (Mikko) who is currently in the minor leagues

I'm a Hab fan - but i'm a NHL fan first. :)

And yes, that could be interresting to chat about our beloved game - regardless of the ON-QC thing! :hatsoff:

When i was younger, i was a true QC in that situation. Since several years, i'm following NHL activities from both perspectives. I have the french canadian radio (Jacques Demers, Pat Burns, Jean Perron and journalists) and i'm an avid reader of Hockey News (instead of it's french equivalent) to which i'm subscribed since several years.

I fear i'm no longer really representing the QC mindset... besides the fact i hate Don Cherry ;):D:1orglaugh

Montreal Canadien 6 - NY Rangers 3

I would love to ask Henrik Lundvquist who's your daddy!

The last two games between Rangers and Habs have been disastrous for one of the best NHL goalie. Last year, Lundvquist haven't been able to keep a 5-0 lead on the Habs... and allowed 5 goals today (6th was an EN). For sure, the Habs have the number of Lundvquist!

For a 3rd time since Christmas, a Hab got a Hattrick: Robert Lang (14, 15, 16th goal of the season). Roman Hamrlik got a solid offensive performance with 3 assists.

Our youngsters, Max Pacioretti (an assist on the first goal of the game) and Kyle Chipchura (an assist), contributed. Those guys, along with Matt D'Agostini, will be hard to remove from the starting lineup once the veterans will be back from their injuries.

Also notable: Jaroslav Halak have been shaky at best since the injury at Carey Price. His solid performance tonight will be a deliverance for him and should strenghten his slumping confidence.

I'll get to the Sanderson/fighting issue sometime. Probably could write an essay on that issue.

As for the All-star game, it's a farce. With no intensity, it's just a simple showcase of scoring ability. Don't know when a check was thrown or an injury sustained in the game. Plus, the defensemen aren't needed since they don't do anything, anyways.

With fans picking the starting line-up, it makes the league feel its giving the fans a chance of participating. Only problem, some hackers may have gained access to the online voting and stuffed the ballot box this year (Sorry MTL fans). Would have been interesting to see if that mediocre Canuck player would have been playing if he was voted in. Coaching staff picks the rest of the players but with the league saying every team has to be represented. That is BS.

Haven't read the hockey news in years since they are high and mighty on the issue of banning hockey fights. I do watch Montreal games on RDS so my grade 9 French is enhanced with hockey talk. :)

As for Cherry, he's a hit and miss. I agree with some things he says while I call him an old clown for other things.

Kovalev on the starting lineup? Are you kidding me? What does he have, like 10 goals this year? And Ovechkin isn't there....what a joke.

It have been the case. Many votes have been retired due to that. Shame on us, Habs fans :(

Hockey News is far to be perfect but it still one of the most interresting hockey magazine around in my opinion. They are often promoting a fight-free hockey (they even used the Sanderson incident in the last issue to kick the can again...) but everything else is excellent overall.

RDS are doing a good job but if you want to watch Habs games, i would suggest to turn the sound off and listen to CKAC (73.0 AM) radio instead - the tandem of description (Maguire) and analysis (Dubé) is the best we have in Quebec. CKAC is available via internet :)

I live in TBay. Home of the Staal sisters (Marc is proving to be a man and drop the gloves). And I hope you're not talking about Pierre(one of the clowns on TSN).

No, not Pierre! Its an insult thinking i would recomand that guy! :1orglaugh

Dany Dubé (former junior coach) is the analyst and Martin McGuire (sorry, i mispelled his name earlier) at the description. Most true (you know what i mean) hockey fans in Quebec turns RDS sound off and listen to them: they are excellent.

No, not Pierre!

Dany Dubé (former junior coach) is the analyst - my personal favorite analyst currently active - and Martin McGuire (sorry, i mispelled his name earlier) at the description.

I might check it out.

Hey....Toronto-Montreal tonight. Between the lesser of 2 evils, I'd be a laff fan (dad was). Guess we might have the ON-QC hate thing again for tonight. :D

Ok, i wish you good luck for tonight's game... but don't expect me to wish a win for the Leafs :D

Oh, do you think Brad May will be in the lineup?

EDIT: I found an english link for CKAC on the web (you need to register tho - i should be able to find one without that assle) - http://radiotime.com/station/s_31238/CKAC_730.aspx
