Lightnign send Olaf Kolzig, Jamie Heward, Andy Rogers, and a 4th round pick to Toronto for Richard Petiot.

Wonder how that is going to turn out...

I haven't checked in here for a while! Time to pick on the Maple Leafs:

--News broke that GM Brian Burke sat out players like Dominic Moore and Nik Antropov in fear that they might get hurt before he could trade them for some first or second rounders. Following trump, coach Ron Wilson will sit out left wing Jason Blake and center Matt Stajan in Thursday's game against Washington because neither has ever had the chicken pox.
--Rumors that goalie Vesa Toskala will not return for the rest of the season following hip surgery are "unsubstantiated" according to team physicians. Said team doctor Noah Forman, "Besides...if we have to, we can always rely on our fine back-up [Curtis] Joseph and his swell 3.77 GAA!!"
--Just making the Wednesday trade deadline, the Leafs acquired defensemen Jamie Heward and Andy Rogers from the Tampa Bay Lightning. Said GM Burke: "We're very excited to acquire the services of two such experienced and well-worn players. Plus we've just picked up a couple of old goalies!!" In related news, the city of Toronto will officially rename Air Canada Center, "The Landfill."
--Finally, Toronto tied an NHL record Tuesday with their seventh straight OT game. Said coach Wilson: "It is a very prestigious honor to have [tied the record]. Fans need to realize just how special mediocrity can be."

Hello Sexy girl how your Toes doing?
Cherry is a fucking idiot. Lets talk shit about the team that just ran through the cup finals and has a very, very good chance to do it again this year.

I am sure Grapes knows we won the cup and we may possibly do it again!! but to have hossa fighting and lilja getting his ass handed to him just goes to show the wings elite players are often manhandled and abused! and nobody on that team can stick up for a teammate when its necessary! not just dropping the gloves to entertain the fans, but to take care of the teams assets.. no need to argue.. I am not looking to do that..

I think the Wings are soft in that regard.. face it, European players play soft hockey!! Detroit is a smash mouth type city.. after a while.. as you can see the crowd loves its tough wings! Detroit has the luxury of keeping an enforcer in the lineup when he is needed, but instead they let elite players needlessly get hurt and try fighting when its not their bread and butter sort of speak!! :D:dunno:

The funny thing about that trade is that Kolzig is done for the season , Heward hasn't played for a long while because of a concussion and is most likely out for the rest of the season as well and Andy Rogers is a former first round draft pick that has never amounted to anything so I really don't understand why a good GM like Brian Burke would make such a move.At least he just gave up a prospect for those guys.

so it appears our Steve Downie has been suspended in the AHL for 20 games. the story broke stating that it was because he "slashed an official with his stick". that brings to mind an image of Downie skating by the ref and hitting him with his stick. in actuality, Steve won a face off draw and struck the linesman's shin on the follow through. now i know Downie has a reputation for being a pest, but since he's been a Bolt i've seen no action like that from him. i really hope the Norfolk Admirals win this appeal because that's the most ridiculous thing i've heard in a long time

Im pretty sure Detroit loves Stanley Cups more than "smash mouth hockey" Don Cherry is a racist asshole. The 3 best players in the league are European, but they don't fight so, fuck them. They suck.

Trade Datsyuk for Getzlaf. Trade Zetterberg for Spezza. Trade Lidstrom for Pronger. Detroit wouldnt win any cups.

Lets face it. If Schneider and Kronwall dont get injured in the western finals against Aneheim, Detroit is 2 time repeating stanley cup champ. There is a reason why they dont fight and get penalties. Because they win.

Besides, look at the most penalized teams this year. Aneheim. Calgary. Philly. Vancouver. Is it a coincidence the 2nd least penalized team in the league is in 1st overall and the repeating stanley cup champs??? I dont think so.

All great points and I agree wit you.. I am not arguing with you.. all I am saying is keep an enforcer who can actually play the game and skate a regular shift and if we need him to fight he's in the lineup!!

As for trading datsyuk it would have to be for ovechkin.. zetterberg would have to bring back Thornton.. lidstrom for pronger might actually be a fair trade off? maybe chara, or boumeester?

Don't misunderstand me! Lidstrom is obviously great.. maybe the best ever.. but he is soft and getting older and slower (sounds like chelios) :grins:

I am not saying nor ever suggested that we should trade any of our top gunners!! just add / have some grit, agressivness, nastiness, and toughness on our team when we need them, so all of our world class players are protected.:D:dunno::hatsoff:

but why though? they won the cup. and are in first place. their formula for winning is the right formula.

I hate listening to a national televised or media source saying Detroit is soft.. if they get pushed around long enough they will be vulnerable.. and its a real possiblility! I mean we had hossa fighting? our leading scorer! lilja gets the shit kicked out of him.. nobody can drop the gloves and fight if need be..

They say the REDWINGS are always being pushed around, and manhandled.. and when all the rough housing and the other team runs our elite, what good is a power play gonna be?? what happens if any of the elite get hurt cuz somebody was runnin around like a wild man just laying REDWINGS OUT??

So one power play isn't gonna take care of an injury that could effect an entire playoff series?? like you said kromwall and schnieder a couple of years ago cost them a championship!! what if other stars get KO'd for a series or for the rest of the season / playoffs?? just saying they shouldn't rest on the luck we've had recently!! :hatsoff:

I hope so too , it was clearly an accident.

Your argument is duly noted, but the Ducks won the Cup in '07 as the most penalized team in the NHL. There is no "formula" for winning the Cup. Last year Mike Babcock made about a million coaching decisions throughout the playoffs that were sheer genius which mixed up his lines and went against his general gameplan, but which paid off in a big way (obviously). I don't think that the Red Wings should change their style at all; it's obviously working for them.

Marlo makes a good point though saying that they could use a quality player who can enforce a bit if he has to. The enforcer is not dead like everyone seems to believe. Every team needs someone who can take down a guy's number and punish him for going after their marquee players.

I also don't think that the Wings are the clear-cut favorites anymore to win the Cup. There are a couple of teams that I think will give them a run for their money, such as San Jose and Calgary (who have a scary team after adding Jokinen), and also the Bruins if they should make it to the Cup Finals. I still do think the Red Wings will probably win, but it's not a guarantee anymore.

Watch enough hockey playoffs, you see a trend. When Anaheim made there way to the playoffs, they roughed up the other teams and made their way to the finals and won the cup. Of course Buttman and his cronies wanted Sidney and Pittsburgh to reach the finals in a skilled game. Hence, the Pit-Det series. The recent playoffs have become pussified in a hockey standpoint.

I hate to see what they want this year. Officiating sucks when controlled by the office.

The league definitely needs to revise the penalty calling system.. allot to most of the calls are the chincy, soft, embarrassing varitey type calls..

All the soft hooking, tripping, interference, slashing, delay of game, type penalties are for the most part marginal @ best.. FFS let boys play some physical, smash mouth hockey got dammit!!

I hate an office run protocol product!! I hope its a nasty playoffs!! fuck the soft wussified ballerina type playoffs!!:thefinger
