The Dallas Stars have five consecutive wins heading into Thursday's game against the Colorado Avalanche, and part of that revival can be traced to the production of center Brad Richards. He has eight points in the Stars' past six games and 44 this season.
So naturally, the Stars ready to trade him to the Montreal Canadiens, right? If you believe the latest trade rumors, that's the case.
"Yeah, that's a joke," Stars coach Dave Tippett told SportingNews.com Wednesday. "It's funny, they always come out of Montreal. That's where the rumors always start."
Since the Canadiens lost Robert Lang for the season, they have been attached to nearly every center perceived to be on the market.
Tippett said it's safe to remove Richards from the list. Richards is playing as well as he has since coming to Dallas in a deadline deal with Tampa last season.
"He's really kind of endeared himself to our team," Tippett said. "He's a good leader and obviously a good player ... this is as good as we've seen him."
Tippett said it's a little early to speculate whether the Stars will be buyers at the March 4 trade deadline.
There are a number of factors that play into it, including the amount of cap relief they get from Sergei Zubov and Brenden Morrow's long-term injuries, and the budget coming from the owners.
"In the next couple weeks, (co-GMs Les Jackson and Brett Hull) will sit down and outline things and we'll see where they're at," Tippett said.
maybe when Vinny goes to Montreal, he and Brad can be linemates again :1orglaugh :crash:
