Three lullabies in an ancient tongue
I don't know what to make of the 3-3 all star format that went on yesterday.

It was fun to watch but I'm a purist for the most part; the AS game has been so atrocious over the years - comical at times. Puting money on the line was good as it made the players more into it.

I thought it was a blast. 3-on-3 hockey would suck as a regular rule but there's nothing more exciting than seeing these really skilled playmakers with all that open ice. Hell on goalies though! Geezus....Dubnyk must have felt like he was in the Battle of Stalingrad!

But the goalies played so well though. I didn't see much of Dubnyk because I was watching the North Star Cup championship game my Huskies win the trophy. But the goalies I did see were superb.

Of course some great saves were made. However, allowing 15 goals in 20 minutes of play in the Central-Pacific game was not exactly a stellar performance. Like I said, Dubnyk looked shell-shocked. He was flopping around the crease like a mackerel on the deck of a boat. Felt bad for him actually. Was like a shooting gallery for the West.

Wow....anyone catch that Kings/Blues battle last night? Holy shit what a game! Blues won it 2-1 in OT on a breakaway goal by Jaden Schwartz but there were a total of 67 SOG in this game so it was really a hard-fought back-and-forth affair. Very physical game....two really "heavy" teams. Quick and Elliott put on quite a show between the ppipes....both of them making save after incredible save as both teams pushed each other to the limit. Total playoff feel to the game. These two teams don't like each other at all and the Kings have always had their way with the Blues in the playoffs but....could this year be different? I always give LA the edge in net against the Blues but Elliott has been the best goaltender in the league since Jake Allen went down about 20 games ago so maybe things will be different in 2016 if the two teams end up facing each other at some point. Damn....it so sucks to be a Blues fan because they seem to do this every year....terrific regular season, early playoff exit. Someday it's gotta change....here's hoping this is the year. It's #1 on my bucket list.

I'd like to see the Blues make a good run this year. I don't really have a favourite in the West this year cause the Canucks suck.

Oilers are showing signs of climbing too. The Flames are on a six-game win streak, and the Oilers just snapped a six-game win streak of their own after their most recent loss.

Really, by now Oilers fans should no longer have hope.

I don't have hope.

Join us.

The Oilers are a sad sack of an organization at this point. Just sad. I don't care if McDavid was banged up, with McLellan in now there are no more excuses...

I wish McDavid would have went somewhere else....just...somewhere. Edmonton just blows.

It wasn't just McDavid. The whole fucking team has been banged up since the first puck drop (even before then, in fact). We're second in the league in man games lost (258!) and 1st in the greatest cumulative impact of injured forwards or defensemen by the IIT-skater metric.

The Oilers have been a sad sack organization for years. Ever since we lost to Carolina in Game 7 of the Finals in '06 we've been run straight into the ground by a tight-knit group of incompetent muppets (who would never fire each other because they snorted coke together way too often back in the day and felt some sense of misguided loyalty to one another as result). Finally they're gone and we have a new GM and a new coach and are potentially headed in the right direction.

Frankly I think you're absolutely wrong to suggest that the McDavid injury and the plethora of other injuries are not a valid excuse (I wouldn't use the word excuse, but most definitely a key factor) for this season's struggles. I'm not sure that I agree with them, but several analysts (who are more expert than you or I) have suggested that if not for the impact of so many injuries to key players the Oilers might have been in the race for a playoff spot considering how weak the Pacific Division is this season, even though we're at the bottom of the NHL (again) this season.

You can wish that McDavid went elsewhere until the cows come home, but the Oilers won the first overall pick fair and square and here he is, so get over it and quit your whining. Isn't that how it's supposed to work anyway? When a team struggles they get to draft the top prospects in the hopes of building a better team. Yeah, we've had a lot of top picks and drafted some good players, but McDavid is the first real difference-maker we've had a shot at. And he's thriving here; he has over a point-per-game as a rookie, which hasn't happened since Evgeni Malkin in '06/'07. The Penguins and Blackhawks had the same narrative; they were terrible for years and then they built up a championship-calibre team by drafting some really fantastic players with high picks (Duncan Keith, Brent Seabrook, Jonathan Toews, and Patrick Kane for Chicago and Marc-Andre Fleury, Evgeni Malkin, Sidney Crosby, and Jordan Staal for Pittsburgh (not to mention Brooks Orpik)).

Quit being a hater. And how about next time saying something of substance and worth (not to mention something original; do you have any idea how many people have called this a "sad sack" organization? I live in Edmonton and can tell you that I hear it every day) instead of this "Edmonton just blows" garbage.

My original response to PlasmaTwa2's post was funny with the Star Ward vid and the McJesus pic. There was no reason to take it and devolve it this way.

We have 5 cups, your Wild have zero. See, I can throw stones too... it's not that hard...

Woooo hoooo,a Wild-Oilers Smackdown. Better than watching the Bruins play at home.

Titles aren't everything. If titles were everything there are a number of organizations (not just in the NHL) that would suck dick. I wouldn't be surprised if the Wild never win a Cup in my lifetime, it's just so hard.

Are the Sharks a shitty organization? The Canucks? The Senators? The Sabres? The Blues? I could go on down a list of teams/organizations that have been around quite a while that have no championships so if the worth of a quality run franchise is the number of Cups or titles they have then there are a lot worse ones than the Wild. The Wild damn near made it to the SCF after only a few years in the league...made it to the WCF and got shafted...we've also been to the playoffs a few other times...

Hey, cool a hockey smackfest has broken out while I've been away! It's about time this thread had some fresh energy injected! Personally, I don't talk shit about any other NHL team. I've got my hands full with the Blues. I will say this, however....a team's history is something that can never change so, if I were an Oiler fan, I would be extremely proud of the many championships the franchise won back in the Gretzky days. No one can ever take away those memories. Concerning teams who have never won a Cup or haven't won in a long time, it doesn't mean they suck. To me, winning the Stanley Cup is the hardest thing to accomplish in sports. I might despise a team like the Blackhawks (and indeed I do!) but it in no way means that I do not respect them (and, likewise, indeed I do). Jealousy has a lot to do with it and I'll freely admit it. We've been their bitch for a long time....our previous idiot owner should never have fired Coach Q.

I'd much rather (and believe me, I do) root for franchises like the Sharks or Blues over...well, I won't say it, because we probably know where I'm going with it...

Truth be told though those are two franchises I would much like to see win a Cup out almost any others...Sharks have always had a great franchise IMO and also the Blues...even the Sabres I have a soft spot for...even the Jets and the great memories of the Selanne years...the Capitals - not so much. ;)

All I said was: "We have 5 cups, your Wild have zero. See, I can throw stones too... it's not that hard..."

That was meant to be flippant. That was the whole point. I thought it would be kind of obvious that it was my way of responding in kind to your inflammatory, useless, and unprovoked jabs at the Oilers. The fact that it sparked a response that sounds like a debate over whether or not organizations that have never won a Cup "suck dick" is kind of amusing. I never said anything to the contrary. In fact, all I said in relation to these responses is that quote above, LOL!

Some of the organizations you are asking about are unquestionably terrible. However, I'm going to take a page out of Jagger69's book and keep those (largely objective) thoughts about other organizations to myself. Their records speak for themselves anyway... as does that of the Wild... *bites tongue* (seriously though, stack the Wild's record up against the Oilers' and then try to talk shit; I mean just look at the "accomplishments" you list in their defence...)

Sorry, Jagger69, I know you didn't mean to say anything out of step here, but whenever I hear this (which is very often) I have to amend it... In 1990 the Oilers won their last of 5 Cups in 7 seasons without Gretzky; in fact, he had been traded to the Kings two offseasons prior.

I'd much rather (and believe me, I do) root for franchises like the Sharks or Blues over...well, I won't say it, because we probably know where I'm going with it...)

Good, don't say it... then I won't either...

Fair enough but when I call them "the Gretzky days" I'm just making a general reference to the central core of a team that was so dominant in that era. There were a lot of terrific players on that team (Kurri, Coffey, Fuhr, etc) that don't get enough credit like the Great One does.

There's a video on you tube where there fans are booing them on the way to the locker room, its hilarious they have to do the walk of shame , they're like 5 feet away from the fans. lol It's an old video but still funny.

Old is right... Dallas Eakins was still our coach... This is so out-of-context. Do you think we're booing Connor McDavid like that when he walks to the locker room? And can you blame the fans for booing then? Not that I condone booing your own team, but when you get to a certain point of frustration as a fan sometimes it comes out...

I never denied that the Oilers have been a lousy organization for the last several years, I was taking issue with the unprovoked nature of an incendiary line of comments with no substance or positive value of any kind; that's not what the spirit of this thread should be about... And I'd have to say that posting this video in response falls right in line with that; it's from years ago for fuck's sake...
