The Oilers are a sad sack of an organization at this point. Just sad. I don't care if McDavid was banged up, with McLellan in now there are no more excuses...
I wish McDavid would have went somewhere else....just...somewhere. Edmonton just blows.
It wasn't just McDavid. The
whole fucking team has been banged up since the first puck drop (even before then, in fact). We're second in the league in man games lost (
258!) and 1st in the greatest cumulative impact of injured forwards or defensemen by the IIT-skater metric.
The Oilers have been a sad sack organization for
years. Ever since we lost to Carolina in Game 7 of the Finals in '06 we've been run straight into the ground by a tight-knit group of incompetent muppets (who would never fire each other because they snorted coke together way too often back in the day and felt some sense of misguided loyalty to one another as result). Finally they're gone and we have a new GM and a new coach and are potentially headed in the right direction.
Frankly I think you're absolutely wrong to suggest that the McDavid injury and the plethora of other injuries are not a valid excuse (I wouldn't use the word excuse, but most definitely a key factor) for this season's struggles. I'm not sure that I agree with them, but several analysts (who are more expert than you or I) have suggested that if not for the impact of so many injuries to key players the Oilers might have been in the race for a playoff spot considering how weak the Pacific Division is this season, even though we're at the bottom of the NHL (
again) this season.
You can wish that McDavid went elsewhere until the cows come home, but the Oilers won the first overall pick fair and square and here he is, so get over it and quit your whining. Isn't that how it's supposed to work anyway? When a team struggles they get to draft the top prospects in the hopes of building a better team. Yeah, we've had a lot of top picks and drafted some good players, but McDavid is the first real difference-maker we've had a shot at. And he's thriving here; he has over a point-per-game as a rookie, which hasn't happened since Evgeni Malkin in '06/'07. The Penguins and Blackhawks had the same narrative; they were terrible for years and then they built up a championship-calibre team by drafting some really fantastic players with high picks (Duncan Keith, Brent Seabrook, Jonathan Toews, and Patrick Kane for Chicago and Marc-Andre Fleury, Evgeni Malkin, Sidney Crosby, and Jordan Staal for Pittsburgh (not to mention Brooks Orpik)).
Quit being a hater. And how about next time saying something of substance and worth (not to mention something original; do you have any idea how many people have called this a "sad sack" organization? I live in Edmonton and can tell you that I hear it every day) instead of this "Edmonton just blows" garbage.
My original response to PlasmaTwa2's post was funny with the Star Ward vid and the McJesus pic. There was no reason to take it and devolve it this way.
We have 5 cups, your Wild have zero. See, I can throw stones too... it's not that hard...
