It really is like a big "fuck you" to the fans, with the way they keep stringing it along like this, canceling just a few weeks at a time.

It's actually made me incredibly annoyed that not a single player or owner has come forward and said "hey, we should think about the fans and the non-players/owners who are affected by this." If Crosby came out and said that there would be a lot more will on both sides to get a deal done. But, of course, neither of them care.

Meanwhile, I'll be more than happy to watch the Blades suck and our stuck up fans (hopefully) have their hopes crushed at the world juniors again.

Yeah, I guess I've still got my Chicago Wolves in the AHL, but technically they're affiliated with the Vancouver Canucks - of the NHL. It puts a damper on things knowing that, but at least it's hockey.

I have always wondered why the AHL does that. The Flames have their affiliate in a suburb of Vancouver and the team is a complete bomb at the box office. Meanwhile the cities that deserve AHL hockey (*cough*Saskatoon*cough*) get passed over for dumps like Abbotsford.

I wonder if it's because the majors don't want the minors cashing in on their territory, so many of them choose to send their affiliate elsewhere.

That doesn't make sense to me since at least Vancouver and Chicago have AHL teams in their metro areas. If anything I think an affiliate team in a team's area is a great idea since it allows fans of both teams to go see the prospects/go see the pros every once and awhile.

In other news... my favorite CHL team, the London Knights, (for no other reason than I've always loved their sweaters + B's prospects) is fucking killing it.

HOLY FUCKING SHIT!

*NOTE* I'm still not positive this isn't just some cruel joke, I'm paranoid like that, but Puck Daddy Is usually pretty dead-on. NHL.com and ESPN haven't reported anything other than the two sides being "very close", but the PD story says framework for the deal was agreed upon at 5am (a little less than an hour ago).

NHL lockout is over; players, owners reach tentative CBA deal after 16-hour talks

It took 16 hours of talks in New York on Saturday, with concessions from both sides. It took 113 days. A total of 625 regular-season games were sacrificed, or over half the 2012-13 season. It took months of bitter sniping, petty politics, false hope and broken hearts.

But at around 5 a.m. on Jan. 6, the word finally spread around the hockey world: The NHL and the NHLPA had reached a verbal agreement on a tentative framework for a new Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Drop the puck. The NHL will be finally back, with a 10-year CBA solidified between union chief Donald Fehr and Commissioner Gary Bettman. As Fehr said, via Sportsnet: "Any process like this is difficult; it can be long...we have the framework of a deal."

Rich Chere of the Newark Star-Ledger reports some details:

Deal to end NHL lockout tentative with 10-year CBA (opt-out after 8 years), 7-year contract limit (8 for own players) and $64.3 M cap '13-14.

That’s right: After the NHL asked for a $60 million cap, the players got the League to move all the way to $64.3.

The deal ends an ordeal that began on June 29, 2012, when collective bargaining started between the two sides. That led to a July 13 proposal from the NHL that may have set back negotiations for months: One that included a dramatic drop in the players’ share of revenue from 57 percent down to 43 percent, galvanizing the union.

The NHLPA made its first offer on Aug. 14, as Donald Fehr surprised the NHL by not taking a run at the salary cap.

The lockout formally began at 11:59 p.m. EDT on Sept. 15, 2012, after both sides tendered offers. The NHL’s next big offer arrived in October, which included a 50/50 split in revenue and a start date of Nov. 2.

That offer didn’t get the deal done, and the 2013 Winter Classic between the Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs paid the price in the next round of cancellations.

December produced some high drama: Meetings between the players and owners without Bettman and Fehr in the room; mediation with the U.S. federal government; and several proposals that saw both sides inch closer to a resolution.

Mediator Scot Beckenbaugh returned to the talks last week, acting as a go-between and then eventually bringing the sides together on Saturday. With the NHLPA's disclaimer of interest and the NHL's potential drop-dead date of Jan. 11 looming, the sides finally dedicated themselves to saving the season with a marathon session.

The deal was finally completed, pending ratification from the owners and players.

Game on, with a shortened season expected to begin on Jan. 19 or earlier. Perhaps a 50-game season?

Also, congrats to team USA for winning the gold.

FUCK YES!!!!!!!!! I am so happy that I am not even going to mention how Bettman is the worst commish in sports and has perpetually undermined the NHL's very existance. May the countdown to the start of NHL hockey begin!!!! SO HAPPY!!!!!!!!!!!! GKG!

the players in russia might stay there but most of the others will come back. but the tv money won't and the casual fans won't either. i've heard 48 game season is what they are shooting for.

Hello Sexy girl how your Toes doing?

I think any NHL player that is under contract for an NHL team is obligated to comeback to their NHL team, that and I am sure there is a clause in there Soviet / European contracts that states if the NHL resumes play for the 2012/2013 season that they are automaitically no longer eligible to play for the Soviet / European team they signed with. Atleast, I am pretty sure that's the way the players agents (I am sure) made sure the player and the Soviet / European team are well aware of the stipulations in the event the NHL were too begin play. I am not absolutely positive about this, but, if I were a betting man, I am pretty sure those arrangements were made prior to them signing for and playing for any Soviet, or European team, or any team other than there NHL team they are signed too and property thereof. :2 cents:

Yeah, every NHL'er has an out clause that once the season starts they're free to go back to the NHL. The only guys who might decide to stay are some Russian players who decide to not report and stay in the KHL. Ultimately, you'll have a situation like what happened with Radulov and the Predators where the NHL team still has your rights and so if the Russian player does come back he'll still have to play for that NHL team.

Big Bird for the new NHL Commissioner. Even with his mouth open as wide as it is still wouldn't be enough to fit Bettman's ass in there.

Bettman has the most punchable face ever. I get angry just looking at him.

Anyway. Yay. If it wasn't the NFL playoffs, I'd probably care more.

Anybody dare to predict the Stanley Cup Finals??

Rangers vs Vancouver. Canucks win.
