Because the sport is amazing and, when run properly, fun to watch, and profitable for all.

Exactly. People tune in/buy tickets to see the game, not the company who runs it. Besides, it's not like they have a rival company where we could watch their games. Sure, there's the AHL, but that's the minor league.

I can't help but think of what this says to young people. Our government won't work together to any compromises, the NBA had a bitch of a time coming to some kind of deal last spring, There are "elite" athletes in every sport who throw fits and refuse to play if they aren't paid new jets and their own private islands to play (to play the game they say they love, btw), (Chicago) school districts and teachers can't reach a compromise so they're on day 6 of no school right now, no one wants to listen to reason. Heads up asses. Everyone thinks they're special.

Not even a week into the lockout and already I'm seeing my most favourite hockey fans ever poke their heads out of the sand: the ones that say screw the NHL and think someone should make a Canadian Professional Hockey League. Fucking idiots.

"Rod Stewart would not be big for another eight years"

I decided not to comment on this because it's pure hogwash and I don't want to get into it. The only good thing I could say about Darryl Katz prior to this despicable, shameful, and baseless threat was that "at least he's stinking rich and from Edmonton." But now he's threatening to move the team just because he isn't getting his way with the distribution of funding for his new stadium. The riches he'll pull in for that stadium are going to be ridiculous, so he should pay as much as he possibly can toward its construction; the taxpayers burden should be as minimal as possible. But he's a greedy ponce, so he doesn't see it that way. And so he pretends that he is going to move the team so that he can get his way, which is essentially equivalent to throwing a prepubescent tantrum. There's no way the team gets moved, and if I see Katz and/or his fat and ugly son on the street I will punch them in the face and say "you're welcome Edmonton."

Do you live in Edmonton or follow the whoe arena thing? I haven't really been paying attention to it so I don't know what's going on since that concept was released, but it seems to me like if they need a few million dollars they could get rid of the walkway and make the place not look like a spaceship.

I live in Edmonton. Most people seem to love the design, and I'm behind it as well because I do think that it will appeal to most people (but not because it appeals to me; to me it looks like a silly attempt at a futuristic-looking arena). The current agreement (which everyone already agreed on, so it should be set in stone) calls for $5.5 million dollars per year of construction from the taxpayers, and Katz is now asking for $6 million per year of construction from the taxpayers.

Dem dam joos.

The latest news isn't very promising, it seems neither side is going to give in and I have a feeling they really don't care if they cancel the season...

I am tired of watching baseball and football. We need hockey.

Hell yeah we do!! I miss it, was so looking forward to going to some Wings games this year as I wasn't able to last season. Is there any hope?

First two weeks cancelled. Rage.

I feel for you guys - and I'm not being sarcastic this time. I'm not a huge NHL fan, but I remember the last baseball lockout/ strike and it was the same to me. Here's hoping they get their shit together.
