I wonder if the players are pumped to be moving to the frozen, desolate wasteland that is Canada, eh BSS?

MN hockey legend Lou Nanne said he would have chosen Winnipeg over Minnesota because it was so much colder. He is a rare breed.

I had a hockey tournament there back in the day and I had never, ever been in a colder place in my life. I believe with windchill factored in it -60 when I was there. Tried to kick it downtown with the lads and it was unbearably cold. Minnesota is the coldest in the Continental 48 (in the North it hit about -40 this year) but it's got nothing on Manitoba.

late afternoon another day is nearly done

a darker grey is breaking through a lighter one
a thousand sharpened elbows in the underground
that hollow hurried sound of feet on polished floor
and in the dollar store the clerk is closing up
and counting loonies trying not to say
i hate winnipeg

the driver checks the mirror seven minutes late
crowded riders' restlessness enunciates
the guess who suck, the jets were lousy anyway
the same mood every day
and in the turning lane
someone's stalled again
he's talking to himself
and hears the price of gas repeat his phrase
i hate winnipeg

up above us all,
leaning into sky
our golden business boy
will watch the north end die
and sing 'i love this town'
then let his arching wrecking ball proclaim:
I.....hate.....winnicold

I honestly don't know who would want to live there (aside from Lou, of course). The nightlife is pretty miserable and, well, it's colder than a Witch's titties. It's sort of a way of life, I guess. But golfing season only a couple months? Shit...

You damn skippy. I got cousins there. You must have thick skin to live there. Not for the faint of heart. The Natives abducted my goalie when we were there. No lie. Also bought a bag of some fire ass weed from some Jamaican brother at the mall and made my first liquor purchase ever (18 is legal). Good times. :D

Don't get me wrong. I love the city. And it is still growing, unlike many cities right now.

Is it growing? I need to get up to those parts again. I was actually just south of the border last month. If they get another franchise I would have more reason (assuming they are in the Wild's division) to get up there more often.

That's an interesting thought. If they're in the Wild's division, do you think of shuffling around of the West will land Detroit in the Eastern Division?

as much as i would love to see another nhl team in canada, i dont think winnipeg will be able to support an nhl team

fans will flock to the games in the first couple of season paying outrageous prices for the tickets and thenm as the seasons go on the arena attendance will diminish every year

I'm basing this wish on the previous Stars' division. If my memory serves me, I believe it was the Hawks, Jets, Blues, and...I can't remember. That was a pretty cool division though, IMO.

My dad always bitches about our division because we can't have a rivalry with teams like Chicago and Detroit. I actually like how we plays all the Canadian teams (Calgary, Van, Edmonton).

As a Chicago fan, I don't care who takes it all as long as it's not Vancouver. With all respect to the people of Vancouver, fuck 'em! Obviously, based on what we've seen, it sure doesn't look promising for San Jose, but we've seen bigger comebacks in the past.
Go Sharks and Bruins/Lightning!!
