NHL '09/'10 Season Thread

:crying: Boatmonkey is on suicide watch,if you hear of someone jumping off the chesapeake bay bridge it may be me :weeping: :wtf: how can this have happend??

It's o.k. You can take solace in the fact that the Habs will get eaten up by Crosby.

Hmm...you probably wouldn't like that either.

I am just in shock! Good luck to everyone else and their teams, but I will not watch hockey again until next october. I am devastated.

I wonder how Bettman and the suits are handling this upset. One of the most important teams in the league, brought down by a lowly Canadian team that managed to have a hot goalie at the right time.

Damn. Ten bucks says the refs are biased to the Crosbies in round two... Well, they always are, but... You know.

Well, I only got half my first round picks right, that's the worst I've ever done (although this is the second straight season that the team I picked to win it all were upset in the first round; New Jersey last year and Buffalo this year), so here are my adjusted picks:

San Jose vs. Detroit - Detroit in 4 games (The Sharks have no chance)
Chicago vs. Vancouver - Chicago in 7 games (Should be a great series, but Luongo hasn't been sharp at all and the Blackhawks can score with the best of them)
Pittsburgh vs. Montreal - Pittsburgh in 5 games (Halak is a monster when he faces a team with no clutch like Washington, but Pittsburgh is not that team, they are clutch and they will dominate the Habs)
Boston vs. Philadelphia - Boston in 6 games (Rask is amazing, Savard is going to be back for Game 1, and Jeff Carter and Simon Gagne are out, Philly winning would be a big surprise)

Western Conference Finals:
Chicago vs. Detroit - Detroit in 7 games (Detroit's experience will be the difference, and they're slightly superior in all facets of the game)

Eastern Conference Finals:
Pittsburgh vs. Boston - Pittsburgh in 6 games (This could be a great series, but Pittsburgh is too good, the Bruins have Rask, but not enough else)

Stanley Cup Finals:
Detroit vs. Pittsburgh - Detroit in 7 games (I know no one wants to see this matchup again, but they are two of the best teams, and I can't really complain if it happens again. It's so hard to pick this one. It'll be another epic series and every game will be close, but I see the Wings taking it this year; Datsyuk is just playing both sides of the ice like a man possessed, I think he'll make a huge difference)

Conn Smythe Trophy - Pavel Datsyuk

^ rodfarva... Just because you picked Detroit and Pittsburgh for the final... I hope the Oilers trade the first draft pick.

Pittsburgh pretty much has a free ride to the Finals again. Hopefully we can get another 7 game series with Detroit, with the Wings winning this time.

LOL! Sorry PlasmaTwa2. For what it's worth, I do NOT hope that the Wings and Pens play for the Cup again. My preferred matchup would be the Canucks and the Habs.

P.S. I actually wouldn't be at all disappointed if the Oilers DID trade the #1 overall to Boston along with Sheldon Souray, for the #2 pick, and say, Patrice Bergeron or something. The Bruins would be crazy to do that, but losing the #1 pick and getting the #2 isn't a bad trade at all considering how close Hall and Seguin are, so you know you're getting someone awesome either way. Plus, I would prefer Seguin, and the Bruins are a virtual guarantee to take Hall if they have the #1 because he's the superior goal-scorer and offence is their major weakness.

No, you'll trade and get nothing! Bwafahaha!

I'm wondering if Pittsburgh actually has the stuff to get back to the finals. They're going to have to overcome at least two hot goalies to make it there. They obviously have the advantage in offence, but Montreal's D pretty much shut down the Caps, and whenever they didn't Halak bailed them out. I can't see Fleury winning a duel with Halak (Or Rask if they play the Bruins next round). If the Canadiens win it definitely won't be as big of an upset as the Capitals were.

I wouldn't call Montreal a free ride. They played the best defense of their lives against the best productive offensive team in the NHL, and they played it to a T. They came back after being down 3-1 to a team much superior than them.

Pittsburgh is going to have their hands full. There are no free rides to the finals in the NHL. Although Pittsburgh should have really no trouble with the Canadians, I'm not going to say I wouldn't be surprised to see this series going 6 or 7 games.

The Canadians are red hot right now, but if this series does go the distance, you have to give the edge to Pittsburgh just for having a longer break winning their series faster than the Canadians did.

If someone can work it out so that Boston plays Montreal for the cup, that would be great.

:wtf:

Well the Bruins have to get through the Broadstreet Bullies first, and well Montreal has to beat Pittsburgh. But yes as a resident in Boston a B's/Habs conference finals would be great.
