Getzlaf played tonight with the Ducks, so hopefully this means he will be ready for Vancouver. Personally, while I'd love to see him play, if he can't go out on the ice and give 100% without hurting himself, then Canada should go with Carter.

Ouch. That's... just evil. If she was going to say no, why not say yes at the moment and then tell him you can't after you were out? You just embarassed him and yourself infront of 19,000 people, not to mention everyone is going to think you are an absolute bitch for it.

Yeah, but you have to fault the guy a bit too. If he wasn't such an attention whoring douche then it would have happened privately and everyone could have been spared the embarrassment. Proposing in front of people in a sports arena is so cliche anyway.

Getzlaf had two goals and two assists in leading the Ducks to victory over the Oilers. One of the only times I'll be ecstatic to see Getzlaf bury the Oilers like that. He's definitely healthy.

But apparently he's not good enough to be on team canada.

It's not that he's not good enough. It's that there are so many amazing Canadian players that inevitably many deserving players are left off the roster. The best Canadians not to make Team Canada could easily make up a whole other Olympic team that would legitimately be able to compete for a gold medal along with the A team.

And, actually, I am going to make that team for fun:

G: Brian Elliott (OTT), Chris Mason (STL), Marty Turco (DAL). (Obviously there's a huge drop-off in goaltending from the A team to the B team.)

D: Jay Bouwmeester (CAL), Robyn Regehr (CAL), Dion Phaneuf (TOR), Mike Green (WAS), Ed Jovanovski (PHO), Bryan McCabe (FLO), Marc Staal (NYR). (There was still Brian Campbell (CHI), Stephane Robidas (DAL), and many others. The B team would still have the best defencemen in the tournament.)

F: Steven Stamkos (TB), Martin St. Louis (TB), Jeff Carter (PHI), Brad Richards (DAL), Vincent Lecavalier (TB), Patrick Sharp (CHI), Michael Cammalleri (MON), Dustin Penner (EDM), Shane Doan (PHO), Ryan Smyth (LA), Jason Spezza (OTT), Jordan Staal (PIT), Marc Savard (BOS). (That is still a damn good group of forwards, and there are a few really good forwards still out there, notably Mike Fisher (OTT) and Mike Ribeiro (DAL).)

Imagine spreading out all of these guys and all of the guys on the actual Team Canada and making two evenly matched teams. In the past, I would have called for the rules to be changed to allow Canada to field two teams at the Olympics, but with the strength of the other teams these days, especially Russia, I think in order to win we have to put together an A team like we have and the idea of having two teams and trying to compete for gold and silver just isn't plausible anymore. It's just fun to imagine what the B team would be.

Just about every of the top condending team could field another roster.

When I think of an American B team, several players right off the top of my head come to mind:

Modano
Guerin
Tkatchuk
Gomez
Martin
Okposo
Buflugyn
Connolly
Rolston
Oshie

There are many more American born NHLers as well. Considering guys like Fedorov and Jagr and ages 40 and 38 respectively, I really wonder about picking such a young team .
