No. Howe never slipped my mind. I just put the scoring machines in my list but yeah, Howe was up there in both the defensive/offensive section. But he never dreamed in his wildest in the 50/50 club, as far as I remember.

True, but in his defence, he DID knock out Richard. :1orglaugh

Okay, I'll post my opinions in the thread. Honestly the last several guys in this era to really get me going regarding breaking goal scoring records were Selanne, Bure and Mogilny. Selanne has the rookie goal scoring record with 76 in 77, 1992-'93. That fucking record will NEVER, ever be broken. Mogilny and Bure did some freaking amazing things as well but in this new batch I don't see any of them even remotely close to these guys.

On a side note, how the F did Selanne and Mogilny put up 70+ goal numbers in '92-'93 and Bure also put up 60? I try thinking back to that year but I was not even at puberty yet, but I do remember Selanne. That was a magical season he had for a rookie in Winnipeg.

his rookie card was the badest card at the time. Sorta like federov's rookie card and Bure's too. I remember guys selling them for $100 for the French. Those were the days.

Ovechkin has 42 goals in 51 games played this year. He'll pass 50 no doubt. That'll be 4 50 goal season in 5 seasons played. You don't put him in the same league as Bure or Selanne? I think Ovechkin is better. Selanne scored more than 50 only 3 times in his career. His 76 goal campaign was more of a fluke than a glimpse of greatness. He has hall of fame career numbers, but never really lived up to the hype of his rookie season.

Well i'll come clean. I don't watch nearly as much stick as I did when I was at home a few years ago with the Center Ice package, nor prior when ESPN was still the go-to for the league or when I was pre-high school still collecting cards and watching the game big time when Lindros and Forsberg and Sakic and LeClair were my guys. I loved watching the NHL in the late 90s; the league doesn't intrigue me nearly as much as it did back then and into the early 21st century. But lately I've been catching up even though my team got rid of probably my favorite player right now, Gaborik last year. To be honest I think Kane is my favorite (current) player in the league right now. Dudes sick. But I digress!....

Ovechkin: his highlight reel is the best of this century for sure. And I would put the Caps' as one of the teams at the top of my list to support winning the Cup.

I was out on the town today sporting my Flyers jersey, and a random stranger asked me at 7-11 if they were going to win the Cup. We both agreed there is just no stopping the Caps and Ovechkin. :dunno:

Looks like there is finally going to be a champion in the city of Washington.

Their fans were the best last year by far. For them to go out the way they did last year was the "low"light of the year for me. That last loss....ugh. Highlight was obviously the Cup being brought back to Melon arena.

Washington's loss last year really ticked me off, because at that point I realized we were headed for another Detroit/Pittsburgh final. Not this year, though. I don't think even the Sharks can stop the Caps this year. The only questionable part of the team is the goaltending, but as the last 14 games have shown, its pretty solid.

last year's playoffs were one of the better in recent memory for me. I still yearn for the day I can see both the 'Hawks and the Flyers win their cups again.

Don't talk about the Flyers winning the Cup. :crying:

I had such hopes for them this year...

Well said, that was a magical season. No rookie will ever score 76, you're right.

something i've observed while watching the Lightning over the past couple seasons. when we come out guns blazing and firing pucks on net, we usually fail to score the first goal or even win the game. we do our best when we don't have many shots on net. case in point, tonight's game vs. Boston.

Agreed.

Although I don't like Gagner much, he's so weak. He gets pushed off the puck so easily. It's very frustrating. And he's a really streaky player, his hot streaks can be something else though.

I think it's cause he's still young so you have the ups and downs. Also, the Oilers rushed the poor kid before he was ready. I mean in his rookie season he was playing on the 3rd or 4th line and the powerplay. Year 2 they want him to become the man playing him on the first and second line and as expected he wasn't ready for that responsibility and so his numbers drop even though he had increased ice time.

Does ANYBODY go to Florida Panthers' games? I swear watching NHL on the Fly highlights it looks like there's about five people there.

Apparently over 13,000 people go to them. :dunno:

That's not gonna cut it. They're definitely a candidate to get folded. The players union has specified a few teams that are hurting their profit sharing revinue, which depends on league wide attendance. It was them, Atlanta and Phoenix for sure and there might have been another team or two.
