NHL '09/'10 Season Thread

My bet is:

1) John Tavares (NY Islanders)
2) Victor Hedman (TB Lightnings)
3) Matt Duchesne (COL Avalanches)

It's pretty unoriginal as it's how those players are ranked but, eh, i'm not expecting surprises this year for the top 3 picks.

Its hard to say all top 3 picks are all different you have travares who is a good goal scorer but is a one way hockey player. Hedman big defense most people say hes like lidstrom, has a wicked shot, Duchesen all around good hockey player will score, is fast as hell has enough speed to back check.

Can't wait till friday.

MONTREAL -- The feuding co-owners of the Tampa Bay Lightning have resolved their differences -- at least for now, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman said.

Oren Koules and Len Barrie, who bought the Lightning a year ago, met with Bettman this week to decide who should have final say on team decisions.

Both attended Wednesday's board of governors meeting.

"They are actually speaking and they sat at the board meeting next to each other, so while they may have some issues long term that they'd like to resolve, things are stable and OK right now," Bettman said.

"I did have a meeting (Tuesday) with Oren Koules and Len Barrie and I think things are OK now. I think ultimately whatever's going on can be resolved."

Koules is reported to favor cutting salary. Barrie wants to spend more to keep the team competitive.

Which ever prevails could have a bearing on whether they deal star center Vincent Lecavalier before for the NHL draft on Friday, with the Montreal Canadiens a likely destination.

it's like being in a raft headed for class 6 rapids...

Bouwmeester has narrowed his choices down to Vancouver, Philadelphia and Calgary.

Isn't there going to be 2 outdoor classics this year? With Calgary being in the other?

Bouwmeester has narrowed his choices down to Vancouver, Philadelphia and Calgary.

Philadelphia is already out of cap salary space so if they want Bouwmeester, they will have to trade one of their star player first (like Daniel Brière... but who wants Brière with his insane contract?).

Calgary aren't in such an impossible position but they have too already alot of money invested already in salaries for next season. Maybe too much to sign Bouwmeester without making cap room first.

Vancouver are in position to sign him.

So unless a trade arise, it might be Vancouver by default.

calgary doesnt have the cap space at all... they are struggling with the players they already have... :D

if they´ll loose cammalleri and bertuzzi to free agency and get rid of leopold, then thy maybe go for JBo...

btw: havent heard any roumors of a winter classic with calgary involved... and i dont really think there will be 2... that would take away the special thing about the outdoor game if theres more than one a year...

i pretty much agree with the first 3 go 1-2-3 like the scouting rankings, but wont be surprised if duchesne ends up on long island at all...

more important to me is that #20 pick... thats when mr. sutter will anounce calgarys first round selection... i hope for nazem kadri, a much talented forward... hopefully hes not taken with one of the first 19 picks

News:

Sergei Fedorov signed with a KLM team, ending his NHL career to go play over there, at his home, along with his younger brother.

Bob Gainey announced he was currently discussing with Mike Komisarek for a new contract. No other discussion is close to a contract signing (Koivu, Kovalev and our 8 or 9 others UFA). He also announced that no offers would be made to Francis Bouillon (if you guys want a solid, rugged, fearless 5-6 D-men, Bouillon is very interresting, for roughly 1M$-1.5M$ per season).

Rumors:

There is alot of rumors circulating in Montreal as we are roughly 48 hours away from the draft:

Who could end with discussions rights of Bouwmeester? Gaborik? Hossa? Sedin twins?

Does Brian Burke will pull a bunny off his hat to get his hands on Tavares?

Kovalchuk is entering his last year of contract: he will be the center of rumors for the year to come as he isnt going to negociate a new contract to stay with the Trashers... unless he is traded early, like this weekend, helping Trashers to start rebuilding as soon as this very season.

Now that TB are leaded by someone who aims to the salary grounds instead of roof, and Brian Lawton saying that the Lightnings will be *younger this season*, does it means the end of the association between Lecavalier and TB? Or Saint-Louis? Some rumors: Habs will get Vinny this weekend (but we hear that kind of rumors since Christmas so ... ).

Boston Bruins GM Pete Chiarelli is trying to trade Phil Kessel for a 1st round pick and a youngster, trying to making cap room in prevision of the UFA signings the 1st of July.

There should be a lot of action in Montreal this weekend, i'm expecting few important trades... and i can't wait to see which youngster will go where. Habs have the 16th choice and it's hard to tell who is aimed.

honestly, i'd be less surprised to see St. Louis traded to some team rather than Lecavalier. less surprised, but still just as pissed...

maybe colorado´s interested... and TB could pick #4... although i think the avs would prefer a center (=vinny)

According to TSN the Kessel / Kaberle trade had been tossed back and forth but fell through over the Leafs 7th pick overall. :dunno:

Does anybody else think hockey players try way to hard to be politically correct? I swear it sounds like they are reading from a script.

The Pronger trade was just confirmed. Good looking out BostonBruin:thumbsup:
