The Second-Hottest Man in my Mother's Basement
hey that win surprised even me.

Yeah. The difference between teams when they have a compotent goalie and a poor one is startling. With Giguere in net, Toronto seems to actually be able to play hockey. Same with Tampa and Niittymaki.

Ovechkin is simply the best, another Hart for him this year! Want to see Washington take it all!

This year, that certainly looks like a possibility. The Caps have been compared to the pre-dynasty Oilers; that's just scary.

With Carolina turning things around it looks like the Oilers will have last place secured by the Olympic break. As much as I hate the Leafs they need to go on a roll. We want Taylor Hall.

Please let Taylor Hall come to Edmonton, please let Taylor Hall come to Edmonton, please let Taylor Hall come to Edmonton. Every time the Oilers win at this point I cringe because I want the #1 pick so bad. Imagine a line of Eberle, Svensson, and Hall in the future. That would be a scoring line to die for.

Hall didn't particularly blow me away at the under 21s this year. :dunno: But I do see some tallent there. You never know who will develop in the league though. I remember back when Lecavelier came out back in the late 90s, and everyone was saying he was the next Gretz. Never happened.

Really? Because he definitely blew me away. He scored a hat-trick against Slovakia and was second in scoring on Team Canada and third in the tournament overall.

Oh, and no one is saying he'll be the next Gretz, to me that's impossible. He scored 200+ points four times (all with the Oilers, thank you very much) and a career-high 92 goals, he has more career assists than any other player has points. Upon his retirement, he held over 60 major NHL records and very few of them have been broken since. I don't recall people saying that Lecavalier was the next Gretzky, but he was a prodigy of sorts, and he clearly has become a big NHL star, so I'd say the hype has been justified.

There will never be another Gretz. There will never be another Lemieux another (Brett) Hull or Bossy. As far as records (a different thread discussion probably) the one that I think is the best in NHL history is Lemieux's 2.00+ points per game over his career. Gretzky didn't even do that. That record is amazing.

About Hall. He did'nt slay me with his performance but I see some tallent there.

If we get Hall he'll be a fine addition to our team as we've got some real prospects in guys like Eberle and even Gagner. We're pretty much where Chicago was when they turned things around by getting guys like Toews and Kane. Hopefully, we can dump so of our useless slugs at the trade deadline. Guys like Horcoff and Moreau need to go.

Wayne Gretzky finished his career with a 1.921 points per game average. Only Mario Lemieux, then retired, had a better points per game average at that time. Lemieux since came out of retirement in 2000 and played until the 2005–06 NHL season. Lemieux's points per game average has dropped to 1.883 before retiring once again midway through the 2005–06 season. This gives the record back to Gretzky.

the mighty Capitals finally fail to win after an impressive streak of victories. just wish it wouldn't have happened against a team that TB's fighting for a playoff spot...

Can't believe they lost to the fucking Canadiens.

There's probably going to be a parade in Montreal now.

Agreed.

Although I don't like Gagner much, he's so weak. He gets pushed off the puck so easily. It's very frustrating. And he's a really streaky player, his hot streaks can be something else though.

After he missed several years in his prime because of one of the most horrible and haunting diseases on the planet, Hodgkin's Disease.

Lemieux was maybe...maybe just one notch below Gretz as the greatest ever.

Hull, Bossy and Richard are the only other three in history that actually had 50 goals in 50 (one of my favorite records) , but none of these three can quite get up to Lemieux and Gretz. :hatsoff:

I know lots of people who will fight you to the death over Richard on that one.

And, by the way, you forgot Howe. Number 9 is right up there with 99 and 66.

No. Howe never slipped my mind. I just put the scoring machines in my list but yeah, Howe was up there in both the defensive/offensive section. But he never dreamed in his wildest in the 50/50 club, as far as I remember.
