NFL 100 Greatest Players

I will reserve comment until we get the entire list. So far....not the list I would put up and I think this difference is evidenced by the discrepancy between the fan rank and the NFL rank. Players from bygone eras will be downgraded unjustly by the fans.

My sentiments exactly. Guys like Marion Montley, Jim Thrope, Slingin' Sammy Baugh, and Ernie Nevers would probably have had most fans scratching their heads.

Hands down without a doubt number 1 is Jim Brown.

List just got updated.

A bit surprised by a few. However, 20 to 11 has a list of my favorite players of all time. I am lovin' # 18 though.

OK here is all the proof that you need to tell that this list is:bs:. Mike Ditka is higher than both Ozzie Newsome and Kellen Winslow. And Tony Gonzales is higher than all three of them?

That is kinda crappy. The only thing that would have been worse is if any of them were higher than John Mackey.

It's hard to argue with the top 10. http://top100.nfl.com/ Jerry Rice was the only logical choice for #1 IMO. Peyton Manning #8. Already. That pretty much settles the Manning/Brady argument. Manning will probably finish top 3 by the time he retires. Hopefully with at least 1 more Super Bowl.

Not surprised either given how often people refer to Jerry as "The Greatest of All Time". One would usually think that they were just talking about at his position, but I see now that I was wrong. Who was that in another thread talking about Moss being better than Jerry? I believe Reggie White should have been rated higher than L.T. but I will not dispute the fact that they belong in the top 10. Pretty much figured Payton wouldn't get a head of Unitas...yet. Even less of a surprise is the fact that Montana trumps them both. If they would have left Butkus off of the list, I would have been pissed.:2 cents:

BTW STDiva, is having a 49er top this list and the Giants winning the World Series any consolation for the Niner's god awful puketastic season this year?

I disagree on Brady & Mannings ratings. They are both to high on the list as are near all players still playing. It's a nice nod / respect but none of these guys are Gretzky. Every player short of maybe Ray Lewis still playing is rated far to high IMO.

Manning isn't even as good in the clutch as his little brother. :D

Judges really value Super Bowl wins when deciding who goes where on this list. I understand their importance, but I don't understand using team accomplishments to judge individual greatness. I personally would put Manning ahead of Unitas and Montana. And I'm a 49er fan. He already has more yards and touchdowns and he'll probably finish with 30,000 more yards and 200 more TD's and more MVP's than both of those guys. He's already broken or will break most of Unitas' franchise records, so why put him lower?

Manning should not have been at eight I can think of alot of different players. Also as a Patriots fan I don't think that Brady should take Manning's spot. Both of them should have been 19 or 20 order doesn't matter. Deacon Jones should have been in the eight spot.

Couldn't agree more here. Deacon Jones needed to be in the top 10. The man who invented the term "Sack" as well as being the "unofficial" sack leader of all time needs to be higher.

3 9ers in the top 11 is cool to see, but I'm a Dodgers fan. :anonymous

Ouch! Well, at least you aren't a Clippers fan.

Are you?
