This is a pretty pointless debate. Metal is such a diluted term. It is so generally used that either any band in existance can be considered metal or the bands themselves are so pigeonholed, no band today can be considered metal. My point...the bands that I am listening to the most right now are Nightwish, My Dying Bride, Destruction, Steel Panther, and Tyr. None of these bands sound anything like each other, but are all still considered metal. All of these bands have different musical goals and aspirations from each other, as do most metal / rock bands, so the idea for a "King of Metal" is philosophically flawed.
