It's amazing how getting the 1st pick in the right draft can change your future. Unlike Toronto and Milwuakee.
The NBA Draft, by far, is the most significant draft in sports. It's way more important than the NFL Draft, and they talk about that BULLSHIT for months on end... uggggggghhhhh. In the NBA, a bad draft pick can really set your franchise back for YEARS. Literally. Just look in the recent past:
Milwaukee trades Dirk for 'Tractor' Traylor: Milwaukee hadn't been shit since. Dirk is currently in his second NBA Finals.
Atlanta chooses Marvin Williams over Chris Paul and Deron Williams: Ironically, they've been a good PG away ever since.
Detroit chooses Darko Milecic over Carmelo Anthony: The Pistons had a championship squad when this happened. Now they resemble the city: bombed out and depleted.
Portland chooses Greg Oden over Kevin Durant: Oh, Portland...
Chicago chooses Derrick Rose over Michael Beasley: People forget how close this was. The Bulls DESPERATELY needed a low-post PF or C, and Beasley looked like a Derrick Coleman 2.0 coming outta college. One is the current MVP, the other is...
Michael Beasley.
The Spurs draft relative unknowns: Every year it seems, San Antonio drafts key player with the little draft room they have. Ginobili and Parker to be specific, are All-Stars and Champions, with Manu being drafted 57th overall.
