NBA '09/'10 Season Thread

No, sorry. This is nice spin. I watched those teams. It was Shaq first, everyone second, and Robert Horry bailed them out more than Kobe. That was the problem with Kobe back then...he took a ton of wild shots and never made them in the clutch:dunno: The Western Conference was also much weaker than it was these past 4 years. Kobe was maturing into the stud he is today. But he was still a wildman.

What was the year the Lakers signed the Mailman and the Glove?

2004.

And Horry wouldn't be making clutch shots if Shaq AND Kobe weren't keeping them in the game.

I seem to remember Shaq fouling out in overtime, and who took over to win the game? Not Horry. As great as he is.

And of coarse it was Shaq first, everyone else second. It was also Jordon first, everyone else second. Does that mean Jordan won those titles by himself? Pippen was pretty key. Rodman was pretty key.

Yes to Jordan. Rodman provided no offense, but a lot of rebounding. Pippen was a great sidekick (aka The Kobe Role). Pippen had 1 year (1995?) to be the man, and he quit on the Bulls in clutchtime. Kukoc took, and missed, the final shot as Pippen cried on the bench.

Kobe is a legit, clutch stud today...he answers to no one. I'm not sure what you're arguing.

Although...who is the greater player, historically? It sounds like you're contemplating putting Kobe ahead of Shaq on the all-time greatest list?

I'm not saying Kobe was the MVP of those teams, clearly Shaq was. I'm just saying Shaq wouldn't have won without those guys around him.

And I'm not sure if Kobe will finish ahead of Shaq. If he wins a couple more titles I'm sure he will.

We need to wait until Lamar Odom signs officially before we start looking at team lineups and matchups...Ron Artest can basically disrupt every opponent. He's the toughest SOB in the league and he's a sharpshooter in the clutch too. Even in the press conference he gave today he seemed to be laughing maniacally at everyone already. I don't think the Lakers can be stopped by anybody. Now, if the Suns decide to run up the white flag and trade Amare somewhere...that could be a huge plot twist....

I feel like this offseason is the rising action of the story, to next years climax. It is going to suck for the teams that had a fire sale these past couple seasons and don't get rewarded for it next year.

Agreed. The moves have been major blockbusters and it's been FAST--bambambam...

I kind of thought the next NBA season would be a sleeper in anticipation for next summer. It's been amazing. So much so that I couldn't care less about baseball right now.

I'm ready for football and the NBA:nanner:

Apparently Dallas is looking to trade Jerry Stackhouse, cash and draft picks to Toronto for Shawn Marion as well.

Richer get richerer.

Yeah, I read about that on ESPN. I think Memphis is in the mix to somehow pay somebody's contract in order for the deal to go through.

I don't know what to think of Marion. Awesome in Phx. Meh in Miami.....is he overated?

Is Tracy McGrady still a Rocket or is he a Free Agent? I thought there was a lot of talk about McGrady leaving and giving Houston a lot of room to sign players this season.

Dallas added to its veteran core on Wednesday by getting Shawn Marion in a four-team deal with the Toronto Raptors, Memphis Grizzlies and Orlando Magic, Sporting News' Sean Deveney has learned.

The Raptors agreed to a five-year, $39 million contract with Marion before sending him to Dallas as part of the sign-and-trade deal.

ESPN.com reports Dallas is sending Jerry Stackhouse, Devean George and Antoine Wright to Toronto. The Raptors will send Kris Humphries to Dallas and flip Stackhouse to Memphis along with cash and Quincy Douby. The Grizzlies will then buy out Stackhouse for the guaranteed $2 million portion of his $7 million salary for next season and make him a free agent.

Memphis also will send Greg Buckner to Dallas.

Deveney reports Orlando will receive a trade exception to complete Hedo Turkoglu's free-agent move to the Raptors. Turkoglu will now go to Toronto in a sign-and-trade with Orlando as part of the Marion transaction.
:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Soooo...

-Dallas gets Shawn Marion and Kris Humphries.
-Toronto gets Devean George and Antoine Wright.
-Memphis gets Jerry Stackhouse, Quincy Douby and Cash.
-Orlando gets trade exception as part of the sign and trade.

Jerry Stackhouse will be bought out and become a free agent.

Dallas has a nice line up now. Gortat, Dirk, Marion, Howard, Kidd. Terry, Dampier, Barea and Humphries coming off the bench. Could be a top team in the West.

I feel like Toronto is getting owned in this trade. Although they couldn't afford to keep Marion, so they did a sign and trade to at least get something for him. I'm not sure losing Marion, Delfino and Parker is worth getting Hedo Turkoglu. They still have no bench. Oh well. That will be fixed when they trade Chris Bosh at the trade deadline.

you 4got about bass for the mavricks he has been pretty solid

So Dallas and Spurs both improve themselves immensely during the offseason. Lakers definitely need Lamar back because the 2009-2010 season is not going to be a cakewalk at all. Here's my prediction for the order of finish in the West:

1. Lakers
2. Spurs
3. Mavs
4. Nuggets
5. Blazers
6. Jazz
7. Hornets
8. TWolves

Kobe didn't want Shaq out. Shaq wanted a max contract, and Buss said he didn't deserve it because he was overweight and wouldn't get in shape. So he traded him. Shaq has even said this. But people just want to hate.

'00 Championship. Averages 21 points, 4 assists, 4 rebounds
'01 Championship. Averages 29 points, 6 assists, 7 rebounds
'02 Championship. Averages 26 points, 4 assists, 5 rebounds

He was also their best defender. But Shaq won those titles by himself. Right.:rofl::rofl:

If it wasn't for Shaq dominating inside, Kobe controlling the ball, Horry's clutch shots, Fishers clutch shots, great bench play and Phil Jacksons coaching they wouldn't have won shit. Teams win titles. Not players. Ask Lebron.

Yes, the perfect duo! Shaq was in prime and the better player. Kobe was young, but very explosive and dangerous. I like all the points you made.

The Lakers would not have won a single Championship without Kobe and vise versa. Shaq needed Kobe... Kobe needed Shaq. Just like Lebron now needs Shaq.

Timberwolves? Wow. That's reaching, but I like it. I can see Golden State getting that 8th spot. Phoenix can always put up 45-50 wins too. They still have a solid team.

I think I'd put the Hornets at #6 actually. The Jazz....meh.

So, since Stackhouse becomes a free agent, Memphis ends up with Quincy Douby and cash which probably went to Stackhouse to release him from the contract? Has anyone ever heard of Quincy Douby before this deal? Memphis basically gets nothing. I seriously doubt Stackhouse will want to finish his career there. I bet someone will sign him as a reserve/bench option....probably Cleveland.

I wonder if Rip Hamilton and/or Tayshaun Prince will be on the trading block now?

IF/When the Jazz lose Boozer they'll be about where they were last year in the 8 spot. No way Millsap can put up those 20 - 10 numbers Boozer does night in and night out

I think Memphis is making cap room for Iverson to sign with them, as it seems thats the only team willing to pay him what he's looking for, and allow him to handle the damn ball all the time, which is what it seems is the only way he can play.

IMO Orlando regressed, they gave up a young 2 guard, and probably a great backup who can play starter minutes in Skip (Alston), plus not resigning Gortat and letting Hedo go is REALLY going to hurt next year. (though i LOVE THEM for taking VC's contract off the Nets and giving us a nice 2 guard to build with Harris, Williams and Lopez)

I think there's only really 3 teams contending seriously next season LA, Boston and Cleveland.

You can add Spurs to that list with addition of McDyess and Jefferson this offseason. As long Guinobili and Duncan can stay healthy they should contend for the western crown along with Lakers. Mavs and Nuggets aren't far behind either.
