Naughty Bear

505 Games U.S. and developer Artificial Mind and Movement (A2M) today unveiled Naughty Bear, a cheeky action video game featuring a unique blend of comic mischief and astonishingly bad behaviour. Set to release in 2010 for the Xbox 360™ and PlayStation®3 platforms, players will take on the role of Naughty Bear, a bear driven to seek vengeance after the other bears don't invite him to the big birthday party. Scorned for the last time, Naughty Bear becomes hell bent on manipulating and terrorizing the blissful bears inhabiting the Island of Perfection.

"Players tired of the same old shoot-'em-up, recycled gameplay are going to get what's coming to them in Naughty Bear," said Adam Kline, president, 505 Games U.S. "The all-new scare-based points system introduces a whole new element of fun in Naughty Bear as players win the most rewards for being deviant and maniacal."

Back at home, he decides to get even. There are apparently several ways to do this. The first is what I call a Grand Theft Auto approach where you can grab a bat, get in a vehicle or find some explosives and then go mess up another bear. The second is a more subtle tactic that apparently ears Naught Bear more points: the scare method. Naughty Bear can set traps for other bears using, say, candy or something and then sneak up behind them and frighten them.

The cool thing I noticed about that second tactic was something like a picture-in-picture spy cam. When Naughty Bear sets a trap and goes into hiding, you can monitor the space around the trap with said spy cam while still keeping the majority of the rest of the screen open to look for other bears to mess with.

Other methods might get more elaborate as the game goes on, I was told by publisher 505 Games. But for this first level, all I saw was Naughty Bear beating another bear to death with a bat and jumping out from behind some bushes to scare a second bear. Then two police bears in a boat showed up and Naughty Bear had to leg it or get bear arrested.

Well hopefully this game delivers. It looks great. Conkers like humor it seems. Looks unique, cute, and murderously delightful.

I so can't wait for it to be released!

Gamestop has it listed at 49.99 instead of the typical 59.99- I know it's not much but this, coupled with the pre-order I did makes it much more likely of a release day purchase. Looks like it's going to be an absolute trip to play.
