Michael Dougle: Oral sex caused my cancer"

Is this true??! Damn I think I'm scared straight to eat pussy anymore! And I LOVE to eat pussy.

UPDATE: Michael Douglas' spokesman Allen Burry has released a statement explaining that the actor was just saying that oral sex can cause cancer, not that it necessarily led to his diagnosis. "In a discussion with the newspaper, they talked about the causes of oral cancer, one of which was oral sex, which is noted and has been known for a while now," Burry said.

Michael Douglas has opened up about his past diagnosis, revealing that oral sex, not smoking or drinking, caused his type of throat cancer.

In a candid new interview with U.K.'s The Guardian, Douglas admits that his illness was caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV).

"Without wanting to get too specific, this particular cancer is caused by HPV, which actually comes about from cunnilingus," the "Behind the Candelabra" star, 68, explains.

Douglas, who fought a six-month battle with the disease from August 2010 until January 2011, also confesses that he thought that his battle with cancer would be a fatal one. He says at first he assumed the stress from his son Cameron's legal troubles played a big factor in his sickness.

"I did worry if the stress caused by my son's incarceration didn't help trigger it. But yeah, it's a sexually transmitted disease that causes cancer," Douglas, who is married to Catherine Zeta-Jones, notes. "And if you have it, cunnilingus is also the best cure for it."

The actor has been cancer-free for more than two years and says he has check-ups every six months. "And with this kind of cancer, 95% of the time it doesn't come back," he adds. Still, Douglas will never forget what it felt like to hear that word.

"I will always remember the look on his face," Douglas previously said of his doctor, who revealed that he had stage four throat cancer. "He said: 'We need a biopsy.' There was a walnut-size tumor at the base of my tongue that no other doctor had seen."

According to the Oral Cancer Foundation, one tract of HPV -- known as HPV16 -- is known to be linked to oral cancer, manifesting itself in the back regions of the throat and mouth. Douglas admits he suffered through toothaches and other oral infections for nine months before discovering his diagnosis.

One of his partners must have had HPV.

Seems most unlikely that oral sex leads to cancer. Otherwise virtually every woman who has ever lived (apart from nuns perhaps) would have been at risk and the stats would show much higher figures.

Performing oral sex can lead to HPV. HPV can lead to cancer.

HPV is the most common sexually transmitted infection in adults. It's believed that by the time we are 50, around 80 per cent of us will have contracted at least one strain. The HPV virus causes 99 per cent of all cases of cervical cancer, genital warts and some less common cancers. HPV strains are typically classified into two categories - 'high risk' and 'low risk.' Both can cause the growth of abnormal cells, but only high-risk types can lead to cancer.

HPV does not give you cancer, but it causes changes in the cells it has infected, and it is these cells that can become cancerous. In 90 per cent of cases, the HPV infection is clearly naturally by the body within two years. People who smoke are less likely to clear the virus. According to the NHS, around 25 per cent of mouth and 35 per cent of throat cancers are HPV-related. However, due to varying levels of smoking, other risk factors and means of testing, the exact figures are not known. Types of HPV found in the mouth are almost entirely sexually transmitted. According to the NHS, HPV-related oropharyngeal cancer is twice as common in men than women. It is also more prevalent in heterosexual men in their 40s and 50s.

There is a vaccination available for HPV.

The more I think about this the more I am scarred. Now every famous woman I see on TV that I want to give head to I just am thinking.....gross. This has scarred me deeply...for now. Thanks Michael Fucking Douglas.

Oh shit now that scene from 'Booty Call' makes sense. Anyone remember that when the chicks makes them get plastic wrap to put on their pussies before they eat it?

Scarred! Scarred I tell you!

To be blunt, I've known about HPV for years, and it hasn't actually changed my bedroom habits at all. But then, the women I've been down on within the last couple of years all get full STI tests regularly.

It's a minefield. Everybody remembers to rubber up for penetration to avoid HIV and babies, but I bet nobody uses a barrier/"dental dam" for cunnilingus and nobody ever puts a condom on just to receive a blow job, and you catch STIs like gonorrhea from receiving unprotected sucky sucky too.

Now Michael Douglas says he DOESN’T blame oral sex for his throat cancer as doctors question his ‘dubious’ claims

Actor Michael Douglas has denied saying in interview his throat cancer was caused by oral sex, claiming instead he was discussing the causes of cancer.
The Hollywood actor was recently quoted saying that his throat cancer was caused by the human papilloma virus (HPV), a sexually transmitted disease that he contracted after performing oral sex on women.
A leading sexual health doctor questioned Michael Douglas' claim that his throat cancer was caused by oral sex.
And now the Mr Douglas has retracted his comments. The actor's spokesman Allen Burry said that Mr Douglas never said that HPV was the cause of his cancer; he said Douglas was discussing what causes oral cancer during the interview.

Dr Brady pointed out that Mr Douglas had been a smoker and a drinker - two factors that he said are the most common causes of oral cancer.
Dr Brady said: 'There are often a number of factors, genetic, environmental, viral, that could be playing a role.'

Phew. I don't know, let's assume it contributed to his situation, and much more was his chain-smoking that contributed to it. :dunno:
