At my age you'd think I would have mellowed out,ha, but bands like................................In Flames, Dark Tranquility, Norther, Shadows Fall, Dragonforce,Helloween, Blind Guardian,Hammerfall, get my blood flowing. I am out of the loop from bands like these and it seems like there are a lot of metalheads on this site so can anyone turn me on to similar bands that I would have never heard of and known about ? Definitely appreciate it !

Thanks for the link and band names. I had an Arch Enemy (maybe still do) and there was a girl on vocals. Can't remember her name but she was hot ! Had blonde hair maybe ? Have to look at my cd's. There was a band from Japan called SHADOW, maybe still around but it's an old cd. Here's a couple songs from them and a pic...........................................................

Dude...................like that a lot ! Have ''Fate of Norns'' but it's been a while since I listened to it. Their sound is great.
If you ever need to get in the mood to slay something, Amon Amarth is your best bet.
And the woman from Arch Enemy is Angela Gossow. She can out-growl/scream most dudes.
Also, you should check out SkeletonWitch. They aren't a power/MDM band, but I can't spread the word about them enough. They're a Blackened Thrash band, but they have elements of death metal, and the fucking rule. They're so tight musicianship-wise, which gives them a refreshingly not down-tuned sound, but they're as heavy as just about anyone.
Oh and all of their lyrics are authentically brutal and delivered perfectly:

Shadows Fall is decent/good. They're good musicians and their music doesn't bother me in any way as most metal seems to, but they just never really grabbed me. I have "the war within".

Also check out a band called Aborted, they are deathgrind/death metal/goregrind. May not be exactly what you're looking for, but they have great melodic influences in their music.

Considering the examples he gave, I assumed the OP was thinking more along the lines of Power Metal than speed/thrash, so I didn't bother with stuff like Slayer. Plus, who the fuck doesn't know about Slayer already?
Carcass, my all time favorite band. They were out for many years but they've just released a new album called surgical steel and they haven't lost anything. Necroticism and heartwork were the first 2 CDs I owned.
Cannibal corpse, I prefer their Chris Barnes days, the bleeding was the first metal album I listened to.

Hypocrisy.....................heavy stuff no doubt. Guitars set the tone and once those vocals kick in, death metal. They're good but damn that's heavy. Even though I like screaming vocals (and most times I have no idea what they're saying ha), I like certain guitar sounds, rhythm,drum beats. In a way Kamelot reminds me of NIGHTWISH.
