We're against various new taxes. If there is a general income tax, then it would apply equally.

Huh? Don't you understand most of this is already private in other industries today? What government provides "testing"? What government provides most "IDs" (other than DL and Passport)?

I think you're mistaken on what the government exactly does, God help us!

I'm talking about Government Oversight. If we really wanted to legalize prostitution, we'd need a single standard of ethics and protection for the girls and the "johns" and taxing this "service" would pay for it. We'd need to create the government job "Sex Inspector" and this person would cruise around to legit sex clubs to do "secret shopping" and unannounced inspections to make sure the girls had proper and RECENT STD tests. The Government can create a general "STD" certificate which can be attained at walk-in clinics or wherever. The State of Cali has "smog certificates" which aren't anything Cali citizens necessarily care about but it's a required form to get every other couple years or when someone moves into the state and attempts to register an out-of-state car. The problem with STD testing in a legalized prostitution setting is the Gov't can create one standard form, but STDs can occur so frequently...how often and practical would testing have to occur to be useful to society?

Again, why?? Why do you feel that prostitutes need to be tested regularly and controlled/protected by the govt.?

In Germany, prostitutes are regularly checked by a doctor. Health checks of customers would deter many men, effectively destroying the industry. That's a :nono: Condoms are obligatory although you'll find numerous girls offering "no taboo-services", meaning they are willing to perform without protection. Unfortunately, these girls are usually victims of criminal cartels nabbing them from Eastern Europe to force them into prostitution here. If you support these methods by visiting them you are hopeless.

The same with The Netherlands.

You of course have the right to feel this way but I am sorry, I disagree with you. Added taxes if they must come into play should be on vices. The things of choice not taxing to death the things of necessity like housing, food and clothing.

You don't need to smoke, you don't need alcohol and you don't need to pay a young lady for sex. If you make the choice to treat/entertain yourself with these luxuries then :dunno:. That's where the extra taxes should trickle in from I feel. Not by over taxing a working family just trying to make it with things that are needed.

You must also remember that these people would become tax paying citizens with taxable income. I pay taxes and so should they, this back alley business of prostitution has had the lions share to long I think. You would expect them to pay income tax wouldn't you?

I agree with these points, and while legalizing prostitution seems logically beneficial, I don't see it happening. I wouldn't mind it happening, but not likely. Discretion and privacy are probably the more important aspects that a client/prostitute would not want to compromise, and I doubt anyone would be willing to give up a sizable percentage of their income. Some would "sign up", but I think most would still do it "under the table."

I think the argument of "it's not moral" is pretty hypocritical in this country as long as they keep taking money from the cancer causing tobacco industry and ignore so many other crimes...

Well, I see the rampant spread of STDs as a byproduct of legalizing prostitution. I'm in favor of spending money in order to try to stem this or contain it, and the money needed to attempt to do this can be raised through taxing this service.

I don't have all the exact details figured out...but (American) society basically ignores STDs or treats them as a deterrent for participating in prostitution....any realistic legalization process must ATTEMPT to address this aspect.

I don’t think that would be the case at all. Most prostitutes don’t have unprotected sex with their clients. There are plenty of countries around the world were prostitution does not have gov’t. mandated testing, and STD’s are not being spread rampantly through prostitutes in those places. In fact, some may argue that the prostitutes are safer than the regular girls you might take home from the bar. The definitive question is how many people have had "protected" sex with a prostitute and still caught an STD from it? I don't think the statistics will prove to be as "rampant" as you might believe.

I don’t see the point in testing the prostitutes without testing their clients as well. If a client gives something to a girl that tested clean the day before, she can expose that to a lot of people before she has to get tested again. So that containment method doesn’t really work IMO unless you mandate that the clients must also show up with a clean test in order to be with the girl. But the whole STD thing shouldn't even be much of an issue if there is no unprotected sex happening.

IMO, money should be spent on better education first and foremost. That's not to say testing isn't important... I think every prostitute should be tested regularly, but I don't think it needs to be gov't controlled. I'd rather have my prostitutes attend some sort of certification class so that they can be educated about STD's, how they are spread, and learn about measures they can do to prevent them in their line of work.

Isn't this about the same as legalizing drugs? You don't hear about too much criminal activity due to drugs in Amsterdam, but you do in the US. Prostitution is about the same. It's legal there, and you don't hear negative reports on it. Maybe the US will catch on some day...

I think for as long as society tries to regulate private behavior, there will be problems. So yes, I think it should.

I don't know where I stand on this, but will it not lead to major corporations competing with eachother and selling women for sex at the lowest possible price?

Advertisements saying "Blowjob for only $10!"

I am almost certain that there would be strict guidelines as to the exterior face of the business locations as well as advertising. Regulating everything including those things would be the only way it would work. IMO.
