john mac arthur describes barack obama

Hi

Here is an interesting article I read in Le Monde, it is an interview of John Mac Arthur director of the Harper's magazine et author of the book "An american caste-The Election in the United States explained to the French". The article was in French, I translated in English.

"Journalist:You are critical against Obama. What are you reproaching him?
John Mc Arthur:He based his campaign on the change. He is all apart a reformer! He is a member of the system, issued from very powerful democrat faction of Chicago. The composition of his cabinet is already a disappointment.

Journalist:Why?
John Mac Arthur:Hillary Clinton who voted in favor of the war in Iraq, became secretary of state. He also named Emmanuel Rahm as general secretary of the White House. But this man, violent and corrupt, embodies the status quo at Washington. He recompenses his friends and punishes the enemies of the Democrat party. If people ask themselves if Obama can change America. This is the joke! Obama, it is a restoration of the Clinton years.

Journalist:He is however embodying change compared to George W Bush
John Mac Arthur: If he closes Guantanmo, yes. But why wait a year for doing it. I think he will look for a mean to keep some prisoners. It is tactical : imagine that the 245 prisoners are freed. If one of them commits an ******, Obama will be accused of having been too laxist. He thinks about his reelection in 2012. He will do better than Bush in the juridical plan, he will respect the constitution. But he is not a big opponent to the system established by his predecessor.

Journalist:Wouldn't he do better than him on the diplomatic plan?
John Mac Arthur:He named Robert Gates at the Defense, which means the war in Iraq will continue. He will make an important and symbolic retreat, but he will permanent bases. He wants then to double the number of troops in Afghanistan. It is madness! At the difference of Bush, Obama will be more cooperative with other countries. He has also more respect for Europe.

Journalist:For many, Barack Obama embodies hope.
John Mac Arthur:They are completely deluding themsleves. He has very conventional ideas. Obama is issued from the system. Where is the big ethical change, the reform? It is ridiculous! Obama is before all a marketing image. More and more in the United States, the social inequalities are bigger than the racial inequalities.

Journalist:How is your point of view perceived?
John Mac Arthur:I am feeling myself isolated. I am told:"Let him do before. Roosevelt was issued from the political machine of New York." But Roosevelt was a heir. He laughed at bankers. Whereas Obama is a too well educated careerist having too much respect for the American banking and financial elites. The half of the funds of his campaign come from banks, big firms and stockbrokers. He recompenses them today: he has already abandoned his proposition of raising taxes of the most rich from 35 to 39,6%.The left wing must **** up and understand that he is a centrist, otherwise there will be a political gap in which the right will be swallowed up.

Journalist:What do you wait from him?
John Mac Arthur:Not much. He is a careful man, who really doesn't want to disturb the chiefs of his party by reforming it. He was raised in a white middle class. He already put his ********* in a private school. Jimmy Carter who was a real reformer, had inscribed his ******** in the public. "

I think Mac Arthur summed up pretty well who he is Obama. I will let people take this article as food for thought for the future and the present.

regards to all
