Mate we just don't want you to be so close minded, no one is going out to insult you or antagonise you for no reason, but you will provoke anger from people when you belittle casualty figures as you're talking about life or death here. You say 1 teacher teaches you both subjects, he/she is only one point of reference and he could be a right wing republican who hates muslims (he won't show it if he/she does) and will try to get you thinking his way, maybe he is under pressure from above to teach a certain way. You also reference people serving in Iraq, with all due respect they are never gonna say it was a mistake or it's all going horribly wrong (neither would I expect them to) as how would they sleep at night or get up in the morning for work if they let these negative thoughts get into their heads. I'm educated at the highest level and I know to get a clearer picture of what's really going on you have to look for information everywhere, even from people/sorces you don't like. The government with only feed you the media/information they want you to receive (this goes all the way down to education), always remember that.

Maybe a bit off topic here, but in the US one would be really hard pressed to find any educator in the university systems who is a "right wing republican," especially in the political science department, even moreso in San Francisco, which is where the young man said he goes to school if I am reading correctly. Further, I have never known of any institution of higher learning (again, especially in San Francisco) to "pressure" their instructors to teach with a more conservative/right wing approach, to the contrary it actually seems to play out the other way around more often than not. Approaching education from a conservative/right wing standpoint is just not in the nature of academia in the US.

I don't want to get into debate, but I do want to point out that women actually had more rights under Saddam than under the current leadership. It's because of the fact that Saddam is secular and he believed that women should not be compelled to wear hijab as the religious authorities has demanded. Even gays and lesbians said that life was better back then. Nowadays, women's rights are a mixed bag and gays are being killed (or arrested) for their open lifestyle.

I find it sad that Racism against Arabs and Muslims is considered OK, That people who claim they are not racist can refer to a group of people as being dirty or call them Retarded Towel heads etc. Im not singling this post out only, Im saying that since 9/11 I have seen that racism against Arabs/Muslims seems to be mainstream and accepted in a society that says racism and intolerance are the absolute worst things one can be. Im not using it as a rebuttal or comparing it in any way to the horrible events of 911, im only pointing out that muslims aren't the only religion capable of violence and terrorism. Terrorism is terrorism regardles of what race, religion, or social background you are from. Radical Christians persecuted and killed blacks, jews and anyone else who doesnt believe in what they do, and still do to this day. Spanish Catholics brutally killed the indeginous people of mexico.


The point im trying to make is that Religion and violence go hand in hand. I can understand the people on this thread who condemn the acts of Radical muslims but that doesnt mean you should drag in the rest of the muslim population and make it seem like they are all blood hungry savages .
