That's what us arrogant humans would like to think that there is no God. Human pride gets in the way too much and we would like to believe in our own minds that morality is what you make it and that everything revolves around us. People created religion as an attempt to reconcile with God, nothing more. God has nothing to do with religion.

But mankind in his own pride and arrogance wants to seek and please God on his own will, not by God's, this is where religion comes in. They use the Bible as their basis and then add their own ideas to what they think is right, hence so much confusion as to who's right and who isn't. Fact is, NO religion holds the truth, it's all blind faith. God doesn't use religion, but His word to convert people.

Lastly, God did not come to this earth to start a new religion, He came to save "that which was lost", being the elect of mankind. And the disciples didn't preach the Bible to spread or start Christianity, they came to get people under the hearing of God's word, they were mandated to.
