I'm sick of Mac's bullshit

Who else is sick of the bullshit smear campaign being run by Macintosh lately? Are they using the same people as the McCain campaign?
All they do is just stand there and say that PCs are stupid, Mac's are cool, and vista sucks. Very informative. And now that Microsoft has launched counter-ads to defend themselves, not even a single bad word towards Mac, mind you, Mac responds with this new crap showing them spending piles of money on advertising, rather than fixing all these alleged "problems" with vista.
Sure, Vista got a bad rap from it's beta stages of testing, but so has every other operating system in existence, even xp had it's teething issues.
Mac keeps promoting itself as the "cool" computer, yet they force users into pre-packaged bundles with little or no optional configuration, almost no third party utilities and a fraction of the apps that will run on Windows. Not only that, but they actively advertise that they will take all your Windows based files and convert to their own bullshit proprietary format for you.
With Windows you have your choice of virtually any hardware on the market, and a pretty inexhaustible list of third party, open source, customizable apps.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a huge lover of Microsoft, but for the vast majority of users, linux is just too much work and too foreign, which leaves them with Windows or Mac OS, and to me Windows is a much more honest offering.

PS I'm also very against the bullshit ipod and iphone. Shop around people, there's far better available for far cheaper.

I'm sick of Mac too.

Yeah, my main problem with Apple is how everything is closed off, and Apple products are only supported by other Apple products (ie. the iPod can only really be used with iTunes). There just seems to be this whole snobby "better-than-thou" attitude from Apple and with Apple products.

But this is how I see it: for the general home user who doesn't want to put up with general computer annoyances, an Apple computer is the better choice. For the workplace, a Windows computer is the better choice.

Personally, I use Ubuntu Linux, though.

I really dont like the dbag in the Mac commercials either

Because Microsoft's "I'm a PC" campaign tell you soooo much about their operating system...

And now that Microsoft has launched counter-ads to defend themselves, not even a single bad word towards Mac, mind you, Mac responds with this new crap showing them spending piles of money on advertising, rather than fixing all these alleged "problems" with vista.

In the words of Eric Hollraiser, Microsoft's Director of Coporate Communications, "It's Marketing 101. It clearly makes sense for the No. 2 guy to pick a fight with the No. 1 guy." In other words, if the roles were reversed, Microsoft would be doing the same thing. Its the underdog advantage used to its fullest.

Sure, Vista got a bad rap from it's beta stages of testing, but so has every other operating system in existence, even xp had it's teething issues.

MacOS 10.5 had a few issues when it came out. They were fixed within a month. Microsoft thought they could afford to drag their feet because they're the 500lbs gorilla. Every product they've released since Windows 95 has had serious launch issues, and they've always gotten away with it because they believed they could dictate terms to the computer industry. Except that this time they were wrong. People refused to accept a crappy product and slow service, and Vista's piss-poor sales have bit them in the ass.

Mac keeps promoting itself as the "cool" computer, yet they force users into pre-packaged bundles with little or no optional configuration, almost no third party utilities and a fraction of the apps that will run on Windows.

You're absolutely right that Apple promotes themselves as "cool." But their lack of config options and third party utilities do nothing to detract from that. Its like buying an imported sports car in the U.S. You've doomed yourself to a limited number of qualified mechanics and horribly expensive repairs. But the car is still damn "cool."

Not only that, but they actively advertise that they will take all your Windows based files and convert to their ow bullshit proprietary format for you.

How is this a bad thing? Its BRILLIANT. The only thing I wondered was why they haven't been doing it for the past 20 years. It would have drastically altered the playing field.

With Windows you have your choice of virtually any hardware on the market, and a pretty inexhaustible list of third party, open source, customizable apps.

Hardware is pretty much a moot point here. The only hardware off-limits to Macs is AMD processors. Video cards, memory, hard drives, optical drives, external accessories... 99.9% of it will work with a Mac.

With Boot Camp and virtualization, limitation of third party apps is a thing of the past. If I needed to, I could run Vista and any Windows software on my MacBook at full speed. But like I said... "if I needed to." I don't, so its irrelevant to me and thousands of other Mac users. And since MacOS X runs a Unix core, most open source software can be easily compiled to run in X11.

I just use whatever is available, comes cheaply and is the lesser of transitions.
I'm not particularly passionate about learning about new stuff that routinely falls into obsolescence a week later. Most of today's new electronic gadgets simply annoy me, in my hands or my nearest others'.

Really, I have no dog in this fight. I have a Mac OS-X now and it works fine, except for sometimes trying to power up, briefly after shutting down, the unit sometimes doesn't want to "fire" until I pull the plug and then depress the start up button.

I've heard that that the Mac is better resistant to the incursion of virus as compared to the PC (?):dunno:
I will report that I have never been infected by the big ugly . . . never ! The unit is 3 years old.

I might get Windows / PC next time, again, whatever comes cheapest, is known for reliability etc. etc.

Commercials have never compelled me to make my choices, FWIW / BTW

PCs are stupid, Mac's are cool, and vista sucks

Pretty accurate.

I bought a Macbook about a year ago. It has never crashed or freezed up. My PC would fail daily. For my needs the Mac is perfect but I totally understand the limitations and understand how it is problematic for some. However, for most, we just want a computer that works. PC works......sometimes.

Macs are wicked. End of story.

It clearly makes sense for the No. 2 guy to pick a fight with the No. 1 guy.

That's all well and good, but in the barrage of pointless ads, they haven't once identified any of Vista's alleged problems, nor have they told us a single cool thing that Macs do that PC users can't. The core of their strategy is "if you use a PC you're a nerdy looking guy in a suit, if you use a mac you dress casually and have your hands in your pockets." That's really appealing to intelligence of your audience.

There's already a metric shitton of false information floating in this thread. Unbelievable the crap the "cult of Mac" can propagate. They use midrange hardware (at super-uber-ultra high range prices), convince people it is special (it's off-the-shelf stuff), and market even better than Bose.

Oh, and you'll be more likely to be virus-ridden in a Mac by year's end. Mark my words. Most Mac users assume they're safe and run no virus protection, and the smug attitude and inroads into marketshare have gotten the attention of the malware writers. It's going to be real ugly, real quick.

My problems with Windows and now Vista are pretty well portrayed in the Mac ads. MS does nothing to really improve Windows, and year after year goes by without a bug fix for various problems. Like using duct tape to fix the holes in the roof of a tin shack, and then you have a problem with the wiring whenever it rains. A patch on top of a patch, it's always been slow and crappy from it's introduction in 1990, while Microsoft's priority has been to squeeze it's competitors out of business.

Vista was an expensive, memory hungry and delayed effort to again copy the appearance but not smoothness of another new Macintosh operating system. There are a load of funny videos all over Youtube about this.

I think the Mac commercials are always imaginative and to the point.

Oh, there's tons of products that are way better than Apple and way cheaper too.

Apple is a company that relies on trendy customers who purchase trendy, useless products that cost an insane amount of money. Everything you buy from Apple is a complete and utter rip-off. People who buy into the whole iTechnology fad are trendy idiots who don't even realize how much money they're wasting on crap.

In 3 or 4 years, your precious little iPods will be a completely obscelete piece of technology. I have yet to meet somebody who owns an iPod that isn't a trendy, "look at me, look at me" type of person. You don't buy an iPod to listen to music...you buy an iPod so you can say that you own an iPod. How fucking stupid is that?

Also, everybody who has an iPhone is the same exact way. You bought an iPhone just to say that you own an iPhone. Having an iPhone is the cool, trendy thing to do right now, so you went out and bought one. It's funny, but remember a few years ago when Blackberry's were the new technology out on the market? Remember how you looked at people who walked around with a Blackberry to be an upscale asshole? Well, I got news for all of you iPhone owners...the iPhone is exactly like a Blackberry!!! So, who is the upscale asshole now? :1orglaugh

It's funny, but 99% of the people who buy iPods and iPhones are doing nothing but buying the Apple name. It's sad, really sad. Shop around, just a little bit, and you'll find other MP3 players and other phones that are way better than Apple's products and cost a lot less than Apple's products. Plus, you wouldn't be forced to download MP3's from iTunes, which costs you even more money than you've already spent.

Don't buy into the marketing.

Hey, why not target Bill Gates? He got money out the ass. Microsoft is damn near a monopoly with Mac in its way. I love PC but that business is cutthroat

mac is for hippies. it ought to mean something that, what, like 90% of the computers in the world are PCs. if mac was so awesome, i find it hard to believe PC would dominate so fucking hard.

also, i'm no programmer or expert. but my PC never crash, it's compatible with everything and i can do everyting i need with it except hump. the little experience i have with mac is that it's not compatible with anything -- and frankly no sleek design or cheesy commercials could make up for that. mac-users who bash PC just seek to justify spending twice the money on half the machine.

When I have more time to comment here I will, but I'm about to head off to dinner, so I will just say for the time being that:
1. Both PC and Mac computers have pros and cons that in time often balance out.
2. Apple is well known in the industry for placing a so-called "Apple Tax" or "Mac Tax".
3. With modern computing the way it is, there are ALWAYS viable alternatives to both. But both function fine.

Macs are awesome and I think the commercials are funny and pretty true.
