If the country you were to immigrate to required your fingerprints....

What would you do if the country you immigrated to wanted your fingerprints?

Just to become a resident (not even talking citizenship), would you still move there?

There's been a huge push here in the NL for a fingerprint database. Well, that was shot down by the privacy watchgroup over here. Now the immigration minister wants to collect the fingerprints of all non-EU immigrants, even if you haven't broken the law and are a perfectly legal resident.

So I'm just curious of the thoughts of folks here. Would you move here if you could, if you were already here would you consider leaving, or do you feel that you have to do whatever the government wants for the privilage of your over priced piece of plastic that says you're a legal resident?

So, that means i would have to wear gloves when i rape and torture women to death in Holland? No thanks.

You should only have your fingerprints taken If you've committed an offense (I guess actually found guilty) or asylum seekers who are 'at risk' of absconding, that's a small price to pay for them considering they are escaping threats to their lives. Foreign workers and tourists should also not be fingerprinted unless they have prior convictions in other countries, honest people deserve their privacy and a reward for obeying the law should be your fingerprints and DNA not being collected on file.

I don't think I'd want to move there if that was the case. First fingerprint databases, then what? Once the government starts infringing on people's rights they'll invariably continue pushing further and further.

Welcome to UK politics, every few years we get this kind of stuff from our governments! Honestly they have got a bloody clue any of them!

Count me out on that one. I aint a fucking crook. I am against my finger prints being taken for any reason what so ever. They are not needed if I am innocent. And even if they did say it was to eliminate me from the inquiry or what ever. Whos to say they will get rid of them once they are done. They will add them to their database without my knowledge. So fuck them bitches!.

It wouldn't really stop me from moving to said country. I would want the least amount of problems to gain my new citizenship.

yes I would still move there. There would be Less crime, because the criminals are scared to get fingerprinted.

I don't have a problem with giving fingerprints to the "powers that be", probably since I already have had to do that (busted at age 22 for "Attempting To Avoid The State Highway Tax", heh), oh and stealing a rack of bicycles from Walmart when I was a teen, and a few other minor incidents, ;)

It is an intrusion of privacy, but unless you're on a crime spree without gloves, it's not that big of a deal.

As far as I know, here in America when you need to be fingerprinted for some reason, like a job that requires a background check (which I've had to do a couple times) it doesn't go to a police database, but they use the fingerprints to check if you're already in the police database. Is that something different over there? Are they going to put those prints into a database? If I were a citizen of the NL I'd be like "sure, that way if any new immigrant decides to take my 9 year old daughter with the intention of marrying her maybe that will help us ID the perp". If I were someone thinking about immigrating to the NL, it depends with how much do I really want to move there. If I really did want to move there for whatever reason (either to work or because of the legalized pot and prostitution!!) then, sure, I'd go for it, if I don't really want to move there, I'd consider somewhere else.

In this case, you'd only get that brand spankin new citizenship if you're willing to give up your old one lock, stock and barrel. If you're from the US, that means around a $500 fee to let the govt decide if they want to let you give it up, an exit fee, and still having to pay taxes for the next 10 years.

They want to build a fingerprint database of all residents, however, that got shot down. Because they can't do it to EU immigrants, they're settling on non-EU. Ironically, it's the polish, turkish and other eastern euro countries they want to keep out right now because there's claims that they break the law and make the NL 'unsafe'. However, this law wouldn't touch them because they're EU or have a treaty with the EU and are treated as an EU citizen for all intensive purposes. So I'm not 100% sure exactly what purpose this would serve in the end other than waste my time and put my fingerprints on file somewhere for god knows what in the future.

I'd have no issues with this whatsoever. I'd give DNA, too, if they asked. I'm not a criminal, why do I care if the federal government has my fingerprints?

Unless you're planning on moving to that country to commit criminal acts, what is the problem in giving fingerprints/ I think its a good idea..its basically like a signature

I have no need to worry, the only reason I'd be opposed would be the idea of privacy issues although keeping scum off the streets is a right good idea for it.
