I once rode an elevator with Paul Stanley

At the Four Seasons Holiday Inn in Greensboro, North Carolina during the Dynasty tour.

At the time he was my idol. I couldn't muster the nerve to ask for an autograph or anything. Me and my buddy just nodded and said "Hey Paul!" He said " Hello guys!" 2 floors then we stepped off the elevator. He wasn't wearing any makeup.

That's all I got.

... at 1290 Avenue of the Americas (where Atlantic Records is) ... I did not know who he was. My co-worker had to tell me who he was. Later, we were both going to lunch, the doors opened on one of the Atlantic Record floors (they have about four floors in the building) and Mr. Vai got on the elevator, we went down in the elevator together to the lobby. We didn't bother him or ask for autographs. He got into a limousine with a lady and they drove off. (We think it was Pia Maiocco, his girlfriend and later his wife.)

That's a good question. Now I doubt whether it was Paul Stanley or not. I know his name was Paul something though because when we said " Hello Paul!" He didn't say "fuck you my name is Todd".

Back to Gene Simmons having made controversial statements and such things: The whole shtick of the band was about flash, provocation and blasphemy. Gene's role can be chacterized as a blood-spitting demon with a giant axe! Add-on: Here in Germany, the band had to change the band logo from the two flashs to two round "SS" - because the other form is the forbidden trademark signs of the "Schutzstaffel" of the NSDAP. As a jewish band, they really milked those themes for controversy.

As for big personalities, the then CEO of T-Mobile, later he became the CEO of the Deutsche Telekom asked me for the right way to a Business Hotel of the Deutsche Telekom near Bonn, I was down in the streets of tht little town and his navigator software did not have the hotel on it. He offered me a ride so I could show him, and when we arrived in front of the entrance, all my colleagues from the meeting I was at stood in front of the hotel, smoking, aand I got out of Rene Obermann's car and casually said, "Thanks for the ride!". It was a very good day.

Someone I know a sound engineer rode an elevator in the Capitol Records bldg alone with Agnetha Fältskog of ABBA (the blond). He told her he was madly in love with her and wanted her to leave her husband and the group to run off with him. She had a good laugh (his words)! The irony, ABBA was at the height of their world wide success, and the happier part of her marriage. A couple of years either way he might have had a chance.

The Dynasty tour was 79-80 I was 15 or 16. Yes, I did know Ace's real name is Paul. Paul Daniel Frehley. Ace's mom was born in North Carolina. I just bought his book "No Regrets".
