I lost my porn collection

Since getting my first computer in my bedroom as a 12 year old, I've slowly been collecting my favorite videos and pics over the last decade and a half. All told it was about 100 gigs, but most importantly it was all stuff I would search out on the internet every few weeks before finally downloading it to keep. Stuff I considered quality enough to bother looking for and since some of it was downloaded years and years ago I haven't been able to find them again online at times when I've searched for them.

I was reformatting my computer recently and somewhere in the shuffle of my four HDs I just never backed up the folder. Gone but not forgotten.

You probably had poor taste anyway...

It is a long time. So back off guys!!

If I lose my collection (that's only like 10 yrs old) I will cry too and you guys know you would as well!

That'll teach you to backup ;)

I'm in the other boat. I'm having a late spring clean and have deleted gigs of pics and vids that have been on many drives over the past decade.

I just don't need them. I have a few faves that i've kept but mostly if I want them or similar stuff again the internet is open 24/7.

Goddamn, I've gone that route a couple of times intentionally. There were times when I thought that I would stop collecting porn altogether and not get into it again at all. What a fool I was..

Now, if I happened to lose my current collection (approaching 400 GB probably)... I just might flip.

Just checked and the earliest photoset on my drive is a Madonna nude set dated 1998.

Don't know why i've still got it. Got vids of her somewhere else and it's all online anyway. I guess I haven't got round to cleaning the celebs section of the drive yet :D

Edit: Just had another check and the oldest video set I have is from bangedup.com from 2000

Oh hey, do you happen to know that formatting a hard drive is nowhere near a permanent data-eraser? There are programs that can reverse a formatting (unformat) and restore the previous contents. There are some Linux distributions specialized to data recovery, for example (RIPLinux, Trinity Rescue Kit) and some free windows programs as well.

The main thing to do in these kinds of cases is to STOP using the formatted drive so that the previous contents won't be further overwritten.

Testdisk is the program to use here:

http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk

It's available as a windows program as well, but I would say that the best option would be to burn a LiveCD of a distro that has TestDisk installed (Ubuntu, for example), attach the formatted drive to the computer and a spare hard disk with enough space where you can recover the files to, boot from the LiveCD and start TestDisk. This way it's guaranteed that the formatted drive will not be accidentally written to.

But it sure does save a shitload of time if some of it can be recovered. Additionally, learning to recover files by yourself in the process is extremely useful in case you happen to lose some other, actually vital data. Then you might not have to pay the data recovery professionals to get it back.

In my experience, if it's just a software problem or an accidental format (such as in this case) and you stop using the drive immediately, the data can be recovered using these free tools fairly well. It will take some expertise and time, but a lot less than gathering that 100 GB of porn back.

I've had to use testdisk and photorec myself in some more serious data recovery cases. They worked quite well there. Here's a link with more information on data recovery:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DataRecovery

And here's an Ubuntu LiveCD that is specialized on data recovery:

http://ubuntu-rescue-remix.org/

Since that is made on top of Ubuntu, I'm guessing that it's more user friendly than some other distros, such as the Trinity Rescue Kit I mentioned earlier and has more recovery tools that the standard Ubuntu LiveCD (haven't used this myself yet though).

Look on the bright side. The birds in the 15 year old pictures probably look like duck's arses now so you wouldn't want to waste your spunk on them.
:eeew:
Some of them may even be dead. imagine how sick you'd feel if you knew you'd shot your load fantasizing about a corpse. (I am, of course, assuming that you're not a necrophiliac!):2offtopic

Think of it this way: How often did you go back and watch every bit you had collected over that period of time?

Who cares? I only protect one bit of the ladies I have collected and that is my Kimmy collection.
