I have an idea of where you are coming from...except I felt that way when I was much younger and my "love life" was nothing but a joke (meaning never dated, never got anything....).
I would lament too, I would go on and on about it - I'd drive myself nuts thinking about it:
Why not me? How come everyone's getting laid but me? What's wrong with me? What does that jerk have that I don't?
The funny thing is, the less you care about it the more you will get it. At least that was my experience. I stopped thinking like that and took on an attitude of "who cares anymore" and things got better. I probably wasn't projecting desperation, seemed more confident...let things happen as the will happen. It will come, believe me.
Keep in mind another important thing: not every "hot chick" you want to have in bed is worth the trouble getting into it with, and sometimes the end result can lead to some god-awful things.
Trust me, I'm talking from experience.

The best thing to do, I think, is to get some hobby/ies where he can meet up with women in a pleasant enjoyable environment doing something everyone concerned really enjoys, and that isn't a bar or club,(where the pressure is on to score, and the feelings of failure inherent probably greatly reduces the chance to actually be successful in his case).
You want to meet attractive women in a nice environemnt? Join a local theatre group, for instance, even if you don't want to perform, you can work backstage - there's always more women than men around in these , and many attractive, fun, inteeligent, sensitive single women go to them.
A ballroom dancing class or group is also probably a good idea, for similar reasons, but heck, any decent club/hobby group, whatever, with pleanty of women around is a good idea, - charities, political groups, etc.

It often tends to be a very superficial environment (unless you go to a different type of bar than the ones I go to). So unless you've got a thick wallet, really good looks, or a magnetic personality you're already at a dissadvantage.
Have you ever thought that maybe you set your standards too high when it comes to women? Perhaps your expectations are too unrealistic?
BTW, if it's any conselation... there are pluses and minuses to everything. Although it's not so dificult for me to get laid now, you'd be surprised at how much bullshit and headgames I have to put up with from girls.

Well actually I do play guitar, i'm not in any band right now (except one thats in the forming stage). But even that doesn't get me laid. I go to a lot of Jamsessions, but that doesn't get me women.
