One ant memory: when I was a little kid, I was walking home from school when I encountered as a battalion of red army ants took on a giant caterpillar many times their size and dragged it into a crack in the sidewalk. They swarmed all over that sucker -- it must have taken five minutes. They were determined to have him for dinner. I've forgotten a lot about my childhood, but not that.

Cork-lid Trapdoor Spider (Cyclocosmia sp.)

The cork-lid trapdoor spider has a highly sclerotised and abruptly truncated abdominal posterior, which is used as a plug to its burrow entrance. This prevents any effective attacks from predators such as wasps.
