Pelosi health care bill (H.R. 3962, as amended) could land people in jail. The JCT letter makes clear that Americans who do not maintain “acceptable health insurance coverage” and who choose not to pay the bill’s new individual mandate tax (generally 2.5% of income), are subject to numerous civil and criminal penalties, including criminal fines of up to $250,000 and imprisonment of up to five years.

H.R. 3962 provides that an individual (or a husband and wife in the case of a joint return) who does not, at any time during the taxable year, maintain acceptable health insurance coverage for himself or herself and each of his or her qualifying children is subject to an additional tax.” [page 1]

“If the government determines that the taxpayer’s unpaid tax liability results from willful behavior, the following penalties could apply…” [page 2]

“Criminal penalties

Prosecution is authorized under the Code for a variety of offenses. Depending on the level of the noncompliance, the following penalties could apply to an individual:

• Section 7203 – misdemeanor willful failure to pay is punishable by a fine of up to $25,000 and/or imprisonment of up to one year.

• Section 7201 – felony willful evasion is punishable by a fine of up to $250,000 and/or imprisonment of up to five years.” [page 3]

Tax evasion has always been subject to fine and/or imprisonment.:2 cents:

Good. I'm glad the free loader will have to pay something. I'm tired of paying their medical expense at the emergency ward.

Ensuring shared responsibility. The bill will ensure that individuals, employers, and the federal government share responsibility for a quality and affordable health care system.

•Employers can continue offering coverage to workers, and those who choose not to
offer coverage contribute a fee of eight percent of payroll.

•All individuals will generally be required to get coverage, either through their employer or the exchange, or pay a penalty of 2.5 percent of income, subject to a hardship exemption.

•The federal government will provide affordability credits, available on a sliding scale for low- and middle-income individuals and families to make premiums affordable and reduce cost-sharing.

I will gladly pay the tax because it will save me about 10K a year. Welcome to civilization and the need to pay for it..

Your right it is and so is extortion, expect when the governement does it I guess. "Buy our health care or pay the pentality." Sounds like something that should be in the Godfather.

Think it is you can have anyones health care but you have to have one.And there will be a lot of provisons for subsidies for people whose incomes indicate they can't afford it.

In the other countries where they have the govt run systems and people pay in tax deductions you have no choice eithier as you have no choice in any tax in the US as well.

Also we are far from done with this health care thing, has to go through a lot of steps where changes might happen to what is the final product.

Personally I'm still not that thrilled with what is being proposed but that feeling comes from a very different place then what most conservatives and corporate interests would say they don't like about it.I still just think since the US already spends so much more on health care then any other country we can have a system that not only covers everyone but not only doesn't cost more but costs us less.Of course we could but the groups currently making a lot of money off the system hate that idea and have successfully (at least for now apparently) blocked us from moving to that.

Coelenterata is an obsolete long term encompassing two animal phyla, the Ctenophora (comb jellies) and the Cnidaria (coral animals, true jellies, sea anemones, sea pens, and their allies). The name comes from the Greek "koilos" ("full bellied"), referring to the hollow body cavity common to these two phyla. They have very simple tissue organization, with only two layers of cells, external and internal.

I still have no clue what it means LOL

Mandate 1 : an authoritative command; especially : a formal order from a superior court or official to an inferior one

Actually, why would anyone use a word which describes an illegal activity with action they don't feel is illegal. When a judge you to pay a fine a the threat of jail....that's a kind of mandate. I doubt the judge would say he/she is extorting you though.

Social security taxes, school funding taxes etc are all mandates as well.No one should hold your their breath's on any of this being deemed unconstitutional.Representative democracy does not guarantee everyone will agree lol.If it did I would protest a lot of what my taxes are spent on as well.

Are we still the land of the free? I will definetely be testing that law by not getting insurance and not paying any fines. I'd say they will not take me alive but I'll go to court if I have to and fight this unconstitutional law. I'm fine without it and even when I've had the need for medical attention I have paid for it from my own pocket, even used credit cards if necessary, I mean, I have a credit card for emergencies after all. All this law will do is criminalize law abiding people who do not agree with the liberals' supposedly good intentions.

Only the geniuses in the democratik party would imprison somebody for "so called" tax evasion of some $15 grand and turn it into a *$40 to $50,000 liability for the remaining taxpayers
Your elected officials... NOT MINE !

*(the annual average cost of imprisonment)

Oh well, at least their intentions are good

Couldn't that be said of any crime which causes incarceration? Some idiot on his 2nd strike steals a pizza from a delivery boy and ends up in the states gated community for life.:dunno:

I doubt you're a supporter of 3 strikes though.

I hate to break it to you but the Constitution was amended to allow the taxation of income and other things by the government more than a century ago. Even before that a lot of people didn't even think it was unconstitutional. Considering you keeping every cent you own receive in employment isn’t a human rights or constitutional issue (In fact giving health care to everybody and not pandering to individual selfishness has the upper ground where things like that are concerned.) if your that upset about it I totally support your right to leave this country forever and not be burdened with your duty as a citizen.
