horror movies

How could this thread have gone dormant for so long? Very sad. First season of "American Horror Story" is on Netflix. Definitely worth a watch. Also watched "Creature" recently. Does B-movie fairly well. You could do worse if you're in the mood for that type of film.

Speaking of being right in the action, watch out for the 3-D version of Silent Hill: Revelations coming out for Halloween...looks pretty cool too !

I am very pumped for Silent Hill: Revelations. Loved the first one! This one looks a little convoluted, but who knows. Fingers crossed it's awesome!

Spoiler: Sean Bean dies

My alltime favorite werewolf film is 1981's American Werewolf In London with David Naughton and Griffin Dunne.

Another 1981 werewolf film is Wolfen with Albert Finney, Diane Venova, Edward James Olmos, and Gregory Hines.

I love the teaser trailer for An American Werewolf in London. They don't make em like the used to. It's actually more creepy than the film itself. In fact, it's a work of art.

Here's the newest redband trailer for the Evil Dead remake. I can only hope it's a good movie.

Not really a horror fan...I might check out "The Posession" sometime. Anyone who the picture thought it was good? Bad?

I was very fond of watching splatter movies, but that was years ago. I now look up for random scenes on YT. That's all. But I am still "interested" somehow, especially waiting for "Hatchet 3" to be released

V/H/S (2012) - Not the worst, not the best. The hype doesn't do it any favors. The segments themselves were pretty good. I think the film's greatest failing is how little I cared about the guy's who went looking for the tapes. Each time we went back to them and away from the tapes themselves it really hurts the movie.

In terms of 'found footage' movies, there was another before Blair Witch, called "The Last broadcast", which is scary as fuck!

I've caught a couple recently that I didn't mind, and actually found a tad scary in their own way. "Yellowbrickroad" and "The Innkeepers". I thought both were nice little flicks, though I have to admit to liking Innkeepers way more.

I actually enjoy writing and making horror flicks more than watching them. Re-vamping a zombie movie for spring release right now, and then starting on an anthology horror movie and a slasher in the spring. Whee!

Cool! Can't believe zombie movies are still going strong. But I still like the occasional Zombie flick. That new one with Brad Pitt might be good too.

The Innkeepers (2011) - Starts very slow. Very slow. Sara Paxton does a good job making main character Claire someone we care about . . . but slow. Things do pickup and we have a reasonably well-down "Haunted House" (hotel in this case) movie. In terms of Ti West movies > not as good as "House of the Devil", better than "V/H/S".

Watched Sinister awhile back... pretty cool, that guy got what he deserved for moving his family into that house !...Watched Mama recently...also pretty cool...a little to much CGI in both...The Monsters and ghosts could have been done much better and would have made both movies much scarier but overall not too bad of flicks...I give them both 5 out of 10.

This thread has been dormant too long.

I Spit on Your Grave (2010) - Remake and not a good one. This movie was vomit. Watch the "Last House" remake instead.

Cabin in the Woods (2011) - Very clever. I can certainly see how the people who went in blind expecting just another generic "College Kids in Secluded Area in Peril" would walk out singing its praises. However, when you know to expect something higher level, the film falls short. It's makes some very smart observations about the genre, but wilts under with pressure that word of mouth has built if you see it now.

Grave Encounters (2011) - Pretty good. If we had to put all found footage horror movies into "good" or "bad" category, this one would be in the "good" section. I also like that they went full supernatural with us, you don't see that as much in the mockumentary stuff.

Sinister (2012) - Good film, I enjoyed it. Found footage without being full on found footage. Kept the tension high and didn't overuse the "jump scares" trope which made the times it did crop up even more effective.

Also, I am very psyched for the Evil Dead remake. I haven't been to the theater in 3 1/2 years, but I see myself putting aside my contempt for douchebags on their cell phones and floors sticky with filth to see it. Looks exceptional.

I know we were mainly talking about movies. But I saw posts with Tales From The Darkside & Friday the 13: The Series. So I would like to add 1 more.

The Innkeepers was fucking terrible. The characters were extremely bland, and the story,as you said was way too slow. Not only that,I found that the acting was pretty poor, and quite frankly, the movie wasn't very tense or scary at all.I also watched House Of The Devil, and while it was better,it was pretty piss poor too.I think Ti West is kind of a hack to be honest, and his movies have no real artistry to them.

I never saw the original I Spit On Your Grave, but I thought the remake was actually really good.I haven't seen the remake of Last House On The Left yet,but I do intend to.

Cabin In The Woods started off very interesting, but as it progressed,it just turned into a farce.I know that everyone raved over it,but I didn't really like it too much.

Seems like we have very different tastes when it comes to horror movies.

I'm really psyched for War Z! I've never read the book, and from what I hear the movie isn't going to do the book any justice based on the trailer, but hey, maybe that'll make me enjoy the movie more since I won't be comparing it to a book.

how about this one EVIL DEAD remake

That looks pretty awesome!

The Last House on the Left remake is actually pretty good. I'd recommend it.
