Horror Movie Trends

For the EMPEROR!!
If you like first person perspectives, see [REC] AND [REC] 2. Great Horror from Spain. Quarantine is the remake of [REC].

I saw the first [REC] and didn't mind it, even though I'm not a big fan of the First Person type of movies.

There's an Italian film called Contamination that is a combination of Alien with Invasion Of The Body Snatchers. It's not nearly as good as either film but it is gory as Hell and entertaining.

I've heard of it but haven't seen it. Sounds good.

That's another one I'll have to put on the list. I'm so behind in my movies, games and books.

Never enough time these days. :D

The current trend seems to be these first person type movies as well as torture/porn films like Hostel, Human Centipede, Martyrs and A Serbian Film etc. I'd like to see more films based on Demons, the Paranormal or Cultists etc rather than just Vampires or Zombies. Some of these corny 80s films had demons in them but when was the last time you saw that type of movie, guess they ain't commercial enough. Rather than just suspense and scares I like to see a good interesting storyline not just attractive teenagers running from some psychos who seem to have gone nuts for no apparent reason :dunno:

I still say John Carpenter's Halloween is one of the perfect examples of a genuinely scary Horror film. There was hardly any blood or gore heck there was only a few kill scenes. However Carpenter being a genius with musical scores pulled it off. Between the eery setting and score Halloween is a very spooky flick. It's not the death scenes itself but the suspense and anticipation leading up to what is going to happen, the uncertainty of when or where. That's a horror movie.

Have the French done anything lately? They were on a roll with Irreversible, Frontiers, Inside, and Martyrs.

Lately not that much. But if you like good French horror movies, you should definitely not miss Haute Tension (High Tension, and the title fits), Calvaire (completely fucked in the head, especially the zombie dance scene) and Seul Contre Tous (I think the English title is I Stand Alone, slow movie, bute pure hate). All of them are very good in their own way.

And I shall watch 2 and H20. The only good movies in the 'series'

I have all those too and also recommend them. Is The Horde a French film? Have the DVD but haven't seen it yet.

We need more movies with evil children, Eden Lake and The Children were awesome.

I think The Horde was made in Belgium. It's original version is in French though. I haven't seen it yet either, but it's supposed to be quite good.

You're right. Horror flicks with children can be very good. Both films are good examples for that. Another one would be Orphan. Maybe more psycho than violence and gore, even though it's pretty violent at times, but it's an excellent movie. And the picture and sound quality of the BluRay (of the US version at least) is superb.

Thanks for all the responses there folks.

I would like to see a trend of countless sequels and prequels and premakes.... wait a minute!. Isn't that the trend we're in just now.

More creepy ghost stories would be cool.
Plus creative ideas like children of the corn and the little girl who lived down the lane type stuff too.

No, that trend is just in the US. Countries like France, Spain and Great Britain have made lots of excellent original horror movies these last few years.

How many Horror Movies from Japan deal with creepy ghost kids? I don't even bother anymore. South Korea makes better films. I miss the Hong Kong Cat III stuff too(Untold Story, Ebola Syndrome).

Depends on what you like. ;) If you like ultra trash gore movies, there's no going around Japan with great films like Kataude Machine Girl, Tôkyô Zombie, Tôkyô Gore Police, Zombie Self Defence Force or Robo Geisha. :D
