Hillbillies and rednecks?

" ... a Hill-Billie is a free and untrammeled white citizen of Alabama, who lives in the hills, has no means to speak of, dresses as he can, talks as he pleases, drinks whiskey when he gets it, and fires off his revolver as the fancy takes him."
New York Journal, 1900 (apparently the first ever mention in print of the expression)

Redneck= useless derogatory term that puts people in smaller and smaller boxes.

Hillbilly= useless derogatory term that puts people in smaller and smaller boxes.

When someone finds a person that is so simple that they fit into one of these all-in-one boxes, let me know. The only label that I will except is HUMAN.

Darn't manny dem round no mower...;)

Hillbillies are the backwoods, Deliverance yokels with bad teeth and inbred children. Rednecks are a little more respectable, I think the best way to describe it is "NASCAR fan."

I think the difference is that when 2 rednecks get divorced, they go back to being brother and sister. With 2 hillbillies, they would just become cousins again. Or did that just pertain to people from Alabama?

Which means any kids of the divorcees would revert from brother and sister to aunt and uncle (reds) and 1st cousins once removed (Hills)? .... this is starting to get confusing
