Hey Fellas, Tell Us About Your First Job

I was 15 and it was my local neighborhood McDonald's which was a block and a half from my house. I remember the interview when I was asked about my greatest strengths. I was shy and modest and not able to give an answer. I got the job anyway. Two weeks later I got fired. They said my drawer was short a few times. I didn't steal anything but about 4 other people had access to my drawer. There was nothing I could do about it and the job sucked anyway. I remember my boss being a lady with a face so oily you could butter toast with it. The other manager was some skinny-fat weasel who looked like he cut his hair with a pencil sharpener. I held a grudge for 2 years before returning as a customer to my local neighborhood McDonald's.

My first job was as a stockboy at a women's clothing store. Me, one other high school guy, and something like 20 other high school girls! Over time, management cut our hours back, and had the "regular" staff assume more and more of our duties.. So, I quit, once I found a job with more hours.

One regret: a .. "girl that got around" was wearing a "Kiss Me, I'm Irish" t-shirt. She came into the stock room to get something. I was the only one back there, preparing a box of clothing for the floor. She asked me what I though of her shirt, in a very flirtatious manner.. I had a GF at the time; I don't remember how I responded, but I didn't approach her to take her up on the t-shirt's solicitation.

My first job was at a garden center, when I was in high school. I got fired, because I broke an expensive tree, putting it in a car, and probably telling the guy not to worry, it'll be fine. They also seemed annoyed that I always had something to drink close by (pop, water). right after school, I worked at Payless Shoes, that was a frightmare too. Got fired from there, for bailing early one Friday. After that, a short time on the dock at a carpet store, lied, got in their truck, stayed there a long time, and that was about 35 years ago, and for the rest of my life I was in a rolling prison cell.

Since my first job lasted only two weeks I guess I should mention my second job. I worked at CVS and was the Ice Cream Man. I actually ate more than I sold. I'd walk in the cooler with a spoon, open up those huge containers, and started eating them until a customer came by to interrupt me. I'd walk out still holding the dripping spoon and say, "You need something?", hoping she'd say no. I lasted almost an entire month at CVS before they fired me. I forgot why but there could be a list of reasons. Whole month though... Almost.

I've been looking back and reflecting and realized I don't think I left a job based on my own decision until I was 23. Drove a van for an Office Supply company. Got fired after 2 days for getting high and damaging their van. Worked at a military surplus store. Actually lasted 6 months but was fired after beating up the Asst Manager with the intention of making my coworker laugh. Fired is fired though. I worked at a cowboy boot store. Got fired for stealing then failing a lie detector.

I still got fired from a number of jobs after 23. Got fired from 2 different gyms both times for being an asshole peppering the GMs with shorty jokes directly in front of the gym employees. Got fired from a strip club in Texas for putting the crown of a VIP's head through a walnut door. When my GM fired me he told me I belonged at a Metal Bar called the Back Room. I asked him for the number and he gave it to me. Got fired from the Back Room after having a temporary issue with cocaine causing me to steal everything not nailed down to the floor then return the next day with a crowbar.

I took a job with a local company that cleaned the outside of people's houses. I cleaned windows.
It was a great job and a great time.

My first payroll job was clerking in an office at Lufkin Industries between my junior and senior year in high school. Great hours and great pay, I had lot of fun that summer. Before that, from the time I was big enough to push a lawnmower I did cash jobs raking and mowing lawns, hauling hay, picking watermelons, any kind of manual labor one-off stuff. Good times.

I was an AV tech at the college I attended. It was a great job - setting up equipment for local bands or speakers who were performing. You would then get paid to sit around incase something went wrong.

I was the only one back there, preparing a box of clothing for the floor. She asked me what I though of her shirt, in a very flirtatious manner.. Back in the late 80s I was working at working at a bank which decided to have an off-site event. They provided t-shirts to everyone for the outing. I walked into my manager's office as she was pulling her shirt over her work attire - a nice tight fit. A reflex made me go "Wow!" Fortunately she laughed.

I am in America, not of it.
i was 14 and got a job cleaning a bakery after school and on Saturdays back in the middle 60's. Me and two friends were there. About as much screwing around as working was done. Also worked all summer as well for two years. One year I made almost $1000. At $1.00 and later $1.25 per hour. Pissed away every dime.

Grocery store , Produce department! Hard work though man!

I starting working at a supermarket around 16 also. Bagger then grocery clerk.
Met 2 girlfriends. Stayed there through most of college. Fun job plus I got very decent union pay!
