Heatwave in Europe

UK doctor Eleanor Draeger, a sexual health consultant, took to Twitter to give her "regular reminder" to women not to place ice lollies in their vaginas to keep cool. Asked how often she has to issue the guidance, she replied: "More often than you would think!"

She said: "The vagina is composed of very delicate and sensitive skin, hence things that may seem innocent to other areas of the body, if they come in contact with the vagina, can cause infections, irritations and damage. There are many things that should never go near a vagina and ice lollies are up there. The ice can stick to the delicate skin of the vagina and cause real trauma and damage."

That's rather interesting. Also of note, it would appear that the item referred to as popsicles in America are called lollies in England. Learn something new every day.

But seriously, I hope our friends across the pond are able to keep cool and stay safe during the heatwave.

I have walked around with a spray bottle and a fan all day. Honestly the hottest I've ever experienced and tomorrow it's going to be worse, although one small mercy is that it's going to cool down hugely tomorrow night so I might get some sleep. Tonight, however? No bloody chance.

Stay cool Steve. We will take extra care to ensure you don’t need to exert yourself moderating us.

I had to wear an ice pack on my head when I went out for 5 minutes to pick up my daughter off her school bus. Not enjoying this, not enjoying this one bit. Buy electric cars or something, you cunts.

Uh .. how do you think power is generated for those electric cars?? For my electricity provider:

37% (!) natural gas;
20% imported (Canada hydro);
8% coal;
8% oil;
8% wind;
6% solar; and
5.5% nuke (plus other miscellaneous sources)

So .. which pipe do you want the emissions out of? A tailpipe, or smoke stack?

Plenty of emissions coming out of your pipe, it seems.

That's much more indication we need to actually get serious about more renewable cleaner sources of energy than it is a negative of electric cars. In any case even taken into account just the electricity produced for electric cars coming from sources that have pollution and produce carbon emissions it's still far superior to have those sources come from a relatively small handful of places where the pollution can more easily controlled and maybe carbon capture processes can happen than to have them be caused by millions and millions of individual vehicles. This has been known for quite a while now. So yes it still much superior for the emissions to come out of a smoke stack. Even better if the electricity comes from another source. With mostly internal combustion engines running around that's not even a possibility in the first place.

A better, and actual logical, knock against electric vehicles would be to mention how in the future trying to handle and dispose of all of the old batteries that come from them will be a problem, and even then compared to the damages of climate change dealing with the old batteries is the lesser evil.

Another more logical response is that an another issue with them is that it will cause more of a strain on electrical power systems, and considering the US is moving closer to being a third world country only masquerading as a first world one and we come closer to being a failed state our infrastructure sucks. That could be a problem. Again that's not a problem with electric vehicles. That's a problem with needing to get serious about updating our electric (and everything else for that matter) infrastructure.
