Has Anyone Walked out of a Job?

I have never walked out of a job,but I have been around when people have walked out. Most of the time it is quite funny until you have to do twice the work.

Last year the whole crew at the Fillmore walked off a Hope Sandoval show. At the start of load out, the road crew decided to lock themselves in one of the dressing rooms and have a production meeting. We, the local crew, packed up all their shit to the best of our abilities, but, when someone finally came out to the stage, he bitched because we packed stuff in the wrong cases. So, what does he do? Does he bring the rest of his guys out to the stage to tell us what they want? No. Instead, he goes back in the dressing room. We finished, and waited 15 minutes for someone to tell us in what order it went in the truck, but nobody came. At that point the steward told us to walk away, and that they could fuck themselves with their truck.

what the fuck you lookin at?
when I was younger and lived at home, hell yes! Now with a mortage and other bills I can't bring myself to do it. I'm a complete dick at work though. Really surprised I haven't gotten fired yet.

My dad had a co-worker who showed up at work drunk a couple time. After his last infraction and subsequently showing up with flamethrower breath they told him not to come back. :1orglaugh He had 20-something years in too.

you only live once. if you don't like what you're doing stop. now. forget walking out on the job, don't go there in the first place and waste your gas.

true story i got fired from a telemarketer job in canada some 2-3yrs ago for not making quota often enough, they called me in the office and told me this at 10am after working for 1hr. i told them i wasnt mad they fired me, but i was mad they burned up my gas getting me there and back for the day. check please! i often send my old supervisor bitch there pics of me on the beach with hoes just for gp. if you're unhappy or mistreated man, LEAVE now and fuck with them later once you're in a better position.

i'll bet NOW people remember the lazy black guy security guard sleeping on the job at the indian casino now...

save all your "write ups" and bullshit they throw at you, have fun with it later :D

Oh all the time! I've walked out on at least 10 jobs. :dunno:

*I got fired from Buffalo Wild Wing for throwing a chair at a girl... (she REALLY had it coming... Don't worry, I didn't hit her with it.) :dunno:

*I was working at one of those survey research places in the mall and I decided I didn't feel like going anymore, so I drove to Gamestop instead. I'm hanging there for a little bit (over an hour late to work at this point), and my boss calls and does the whole "you're late, where are you" bit and I honestly was said "Yeeeeeaaahhh.... I'm not coming in anymore. I just don't really want to." and hung up. The people in Gamestop were like, "Did you just quit your job like that??" :dunno::1orglaugh

*My personal favorite is when I was a clerk at BP (the gas station). This kid came in half drunk, 4 hours late and yet I still had to do everything. So I did, but I asked him to help (JUST help, not do it all himself or anything) and he refused! So I was like well I'm not going to do it then. You have to do SOMETHING tonight, you half drunk asshole... So I took off my work shirt and started ringing up customers out of uniform. Then I got bored, and since my guitar and amp were in my car, I started playing metal as loud as my amp would go inside the car wash until the manager showed up and told my to leave. I also flipped over a shelf full of shit on my way out. :dunno:

~Maybe I'm a little extreme, but life's too short to become a drone.~

I "walked out" of the Army.

They offered me a shit load of cash and a bunch more in benefits and all kinds of crap - if I re-upped. This was Vietnam. I'd already had 3 tours.

When I refused - they threatened me with all kinds of other crap - stockade, loss of benies, lowered pay, prosecution, bad discharge ... you name it.

When that didn't work, they appealed to my "patriotism", "love of country", "you don't want to desert your men do you?! How can you ever think of such a thing!" and other assorted nonsense.

Hell, they even threatened my wife - tried to convince her that I was a traitor...

THAT was the FIRST "job" I ever 'walked out' off.... and the ONLY 'job' since.

i did it at home depot...management was completely focused upon hours and i got tired of them under scheduling thus forcing me to do the work of two people (closing my department and my sister department, building materials and lumber) also i did it at united artists because i got tired of having such a dumbfuck job (it was fun job tho so i did regret that one)

Shifty

O.G.
ditto.

and ive also just showed up and did nothing until they fired me..

ive been the subject of a lot of abuse in a few jobs ive had.
oh the shit ive endured.

a lot of people at jobs go out of their way to make someone else miserable because they are stuck there and miserable too.
i always have had the last laugh however.

When I was younger, I left a few hourly wage jobs. However, I didn't literally 'walk out'; this involved letting my employer know that I was leaving, finishing the shift and tying up any loose ends prior to departing.

For the record, sometimes being 'professional' means standing up for one's self and showing some dignity. :2 cents:

It's not a decision to take lightly, but I think there are situations where it's justifiable. It might not be the most professional thing, but then again it's not like businesses always treat you in the most professional manner either and there is only so much abuse that one should take. Most of them treat you like a number if you're lucky and like trash if you're not. Unfortunately, most of them also have their employees by the balls, even more so now days. There were times in the past where I wanted to, but I just didn't have any other option and nowhere else to go and the meager amount of money I was making I needed. Getting a job where I'm at is a near Herculean task. It's not something where you can quit a job and find another one within the next week. Still, I did come close to walking out once when I felt my employer was putting my safety as risk (and they were) when I was asked to help fix some equipment by people above me. They were not only not following their company's own policy on safety but it was probably technically illegal also. I didn't even have close to enough money to go through the legal system and most of the higher ups knew about it already, and even if I went to somebody that could have did something I would still have most likely had a quick exit from working for them.

Spleen

Banned?
No, but last week I took a job, told them I'd be there monday morning at 9.00.... Never showed up. Bit harsh I guess.

I think I've written this before but here goes:

I was tending bar at a place that rhymes with Puffalo Mild Mings in Omaha about 12 years ago when this youngish looking young man and his girlfriend came in and he started smoking at his table. At the time the state had enacted a law that it was illegal for anyone under 18 to even smoke in public places.

I decided he looked a little too young, so I politely asked for I.D. from both of them. He was 22.........barely, and he looked like he was younger. He started bitching about this and I said, " you should take it as a compliment, because when you're older and a bartender doesn't I.D. you, it feels a little insulting." I thanked him and walked away.

I was walking back to the kitchen and he yells across the restaurant "Something, something, MOTHER FUCKER!"

I walked back, smiled and said, "Sir, this is a family place and there are small children present. If you can't control yourself I'll have to ask you to leave." His girlfriend apologized and they went back to eating.

Five minutes later he yelled something similar and I sprinted over and said, "That's it. Get out. You're done. Please leave." He said, "But we haven't finished."

"Oh, you're finished all right." And I swept everything on the table onto a tray.

He went to the front desk and demanded to see a manager and he really laid into him. When I approached to fill my manager in on what was actually said I heard the phrase, "And I want him to apologize."

Thomas, my manager, gave me a look that pleaded me to keep my mouth shut, but me being me, I couldn't.

"You want an apology? You can suck an apology out of my dick." Everything froze and my manager performed the Mother of all face palms. I collected my stuff and didn't look back.

When i was younger all the time but not anymore!! I may not have the best job in the world but it pays the bills and to be honest, i'd rather be in a crappy job with a roof over my head, then unemployed and homeless.

Only one time in my life. I was 18 and not wanting to attend college in the fall. My dad got me a job at some shithole factory cleaning machines that had not been used since WW1. They gave me a putty knife and an air hose to clean about 3 inches of grease and dirt off these bastards. I did it for 2-1/2 days and walked off. Went home and Dad was there. Asked me what happened and told him. Big smile on his face. I started college in the fall and now own my own business with 53 employees.

That was my first big lesson in life.

Yup, just stood up and left .... might not have been the wisest thing to do, but it felt great.

We're a long time dead, so suffering at work just wastes precious time above ground.

And somebody who actually does want to work will always find a job. It might not be perfect, but it'll do until you find what you want, sans assholes ......
