German cars

Of course they are some of the best made cars there are. For many years Americans have appreciated and worked towards the joy and prestige of owning one. While the cost of purchasing/owning and certainly the high cost of maintenance has kept most of us from enjoying/owning them. A "specializing" mechanic costs a small fortune. Vintage ones are very sought after too, I am around vitage car collectors all the time so I do know this is true.

There is no shortage of them here and hasn't been for decades. I think the love goes as far back as the 30's. After the war I think they started drifting over on ships being brought here by our higher ups in the Military for show. They were flashy in the day. Like pimp cars that "Hey look at me." state of mind. I could very well be wrong, I'm basing this on what I do know from reading and time line observations only. IMHO only of course.

what the fuck you lookin at?
I used to hate Mercedes, as they used to be ugly slow clunky looking piles of shit, but they've come around in the last few years and are damn nice now. I also like BMW and Audi!

Hi,
what do you think about german cars, like BMW, VW, Opel, Audi or Mercedes Benz?

I would leave VW out, but they do share some parts with Audi. Opel is GM of Europe, so I dont think of them in the same class as the others, fine product though. German autos are very fine cars, but quite expensive compared to what some of the Japanese makers are offering. I have owed a BMW and plan to buy another next year. Proved a very reliable car, but the regular maintainence was quite expensive. BMW now offers free maintainence for 50000 miles, so that should offset some costs.

some people do buy them purely for status, but as a true car fan, i see them as State of the Art in production cars.

I think some of them are the best cars around and some of them are overrated. I'm not a fan of the recent Mercedes. Most of them look nice but I think their engineering isn't as good as a lot of people think they are anymore, especially the electronics in them, and they have bad value to the dollar. They also focus on luxury too much and have too much weight despite the power they generate. I'm also not a big fan of Audi, and never have been. I happen to like Porsches, and BMWs aren't bad either.

Is somewhere outhere.
I was at a Mini rally in Poole (England) when I was on holiday. As you all proberly know Mini got taken over by BMW a few years ago.But at the rally they had both British and German types.

One of the Brit Minis had a slogan on the back window saying "True Brit - No German Shit" which I thought was pretty funny.I don't think it would've been very popular driving around the streets of any german town though :1orglaugh
