That was difficult to watch. I knew the end of the fight wasn't going to be pretty, so I prepared myself for some gore. That was about what I expected, and probably as much as I can stomach. I'm not complaining. It served its purpose, but I hope the show never gets that gruesome again.
You really have to hand it to them for the realism sometimes. Blood dripping through the floor boards at Mole's Town, the Iron Born Commander aspirating blood, Oberyn's teeth scattering on the stone when the Mountain demolishes his jaw, and so on. The show's producers certainly are dedicated to their craft.
A few random observations & reflections:
1. They almost seemed to "tease out" the stuff between Grey Worm & Missandei just to set up a major contrast with the gore at the end, like combining eroticism & death. It's almost Freudian.
2. The ending aside, the sequence with Nathalie Emmanuel made my freakin year. Holy crap, what a sexy woman.
3. I too liked Arya's gut-busting laughter at the Bloody Gate. It was a much needed relief, considering the show's characters usually only smirk when someone dies (e.g., Cersei), not smile, and the "good guys" certainly don't laugh often.
4. Sansa just became somewhat interesting, pretty much for the first time in the series, IMHO. She seemed to mature about 5 years from the last episode to her initial manipulation of Little Finger (that's just what I think is happening, so nobody jump down my throat). She added to the sexiness in this episode, although really it was only a tease.
5. Jorah should have come clean long before this. He had to know it would come to light.
Stiffy: In the books, wasn't he banished for loving Danaerys, not for betraying her?
6. Good God the North is big.
7. For all the success of the show and the epic high quality of this season, I have to believe the actors are probably a little disappointed by the huge loss of screen time lately. It was one thing for Yara to make only a 5 minute appearance last season, but Rose Leslie has hardly had any face time, and neither have many of the others. As the story gets larger & more complex, it seems they're going to get to see less and less of themselves in the scripts, and I don't imagine they much favor that outcome.
8. So is the Mountain dead? Oberyn was called the Red Viper because he treated his blades with poison. One would think the Mountain would eventually succumb given how many times Oberyn stabbed him, but maybe they'll decide to go a different direction in the show?
9. From the last episode, the sequence where Dany has Daario undress and then casts her gaze downward to the parts of him she really wants...you just know that's going to be gif'ed and all over the web.
