For The Longest Time I Thought Jagger's Av Was Lee Majors And Not Steve Earle

What a freaking idiot I am. In all fairness it is a small pic. Jagger, I was just about to look for some funny clips of Lee Majors on Ash vs Evil Dead and send them to you. He's such a perv in that show. Anywaaaaaaaaay...

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Dino Velvet again.

It is indeed Steve Earle. Bully for you for figuring it out! He's a life-hero of mine. I love his music, his beliefs and his story. He is the original Hardcore Troubadour. Read his book by the same name and you'll wonder how in the hell he is still alive.

Dino, I can relate. Before I knew better, my only reference for Steve Earle was the cover of his first album. He don't look nothing like that now...

Sounds familiar...

I thought it was a real photo of Jagger and that he didn't give a fuck if anyone knew he was a member of a porn site.

Never heard of Steve Earle before this thread.

Indeed. The parallels are pretty striking. My avatar pic is seriously dated in fact. He doesn't even remotely resemble the fresh-faced kid he was when he broke on the scene back in the mid-80s.

Heroin....geezus.

Never thought of that one!

I remember Guitar Town burning up CMT when I was a kid.

Yeah he is best known in Nashville for that and Copperhead Road. He's long been banished from Music City and only gets airplay online, on NPR or on certain backroad Americana/Red Dirt radio stations in the southwest, mainly Texas. He has proven himself to be extremely versatile through the years as witnessed by the contrast with a more standard country-style tune like Guitar Town and an offering like this raw, dark and scary offering off his latest album entitled So You Wanna Be An Outlaw?:

I thought Jagger was Steve Earle.

Thanks Rane....I take that as a compliment!

I like that perception! LOL....it ain't so however....even though there are a few similarities so not THAT far off (I'm MUCH better looking for instance). ;) :1orglaugh

For The Longest Time I Thought Jagger's Av was Jagger. Seriously. I thought it was pretty ballsy that he was showing his own pic, then I said fuck it and went back to thinking about hot, Latina models.

My uncle is a decent looking guy, he's about 50 and has a girlfriend who is very tanned. First time I saw her I thought she was in her 60's. Then I found out she was 2 years younger than my uncle.
Genes and the sun can make a person age much faster.

This is funny. I always thought that your avatar pic was of you as well. I'm aware of Steve Earle's music (Copperhead Road being an old favorite) and I became a fan of his when he was on The Wire. But I never saw the young version of him in a picture. He played a popular character, named Walon, on The Wire, who tried to help get Bubbles off heroin over the course of the show. Walon was an HIV positive, recovering addict, who got Bubbles into Narcotic Anonymous and eventually helped him beat the horse. Earle's song, "I Feel Alright", is well known to any fan of The Wire. It drove the Season 2 finale ending credits. It's on The Wire soundtrack, along with his version of Way Down in the Hole. In other words, to any (real) fan of The Wire, Earle is an icon.

Earle was also in the acclaimed (but confusing) Treme on HBO. His character was the victim of a random act of violence - murdered just for standing in the wrong spot at the wrong time.

I've come to like the guy for his real music and for the real characters that he's played.

Not much is real in this world anymore. IMO Steve Earle, warts and all, is real. Props to you for knowing all about the early Stave Earle, who I wasn't aware of.

The Wire was damn sure REAL!

as well, for the longest time, I thought Jagger's avi was his photo. I figured he was that unabashed and also, what a handsome dude. no homo.

Thanks Rey. I Feel Alright, both the song and the album, were Steve's rebound efforts directly on the heels of his recovery from addiction back in the mid-90s. He is definitely well-cast in his role from what I know about it (I have never seen The Wire) since he was once a hopeless street junkie aimlessly roaming the back avenues of south Nashville and had pawned everything he owned (including his extensive collection of guitars) in order to feed his habit. It's a very ugly and painful story. The fact that he was able to simply remain alive is amazing enough but to realize that he once again was able to become a major Americana recording artist and a devotee and activist of such salient left-wing causes like gun control and the death penalty are emblematic of the type of resolute and indomitable personality that Steve has. It's a big reason that I admire him so much....not so much for his political stances (with which I am pretty much in lockstep) as his power to raise himself back up from such depths of human despair that would have doubtlessly consumed and destroyed someone with a weaker backbone. He does indeed have warts....a lot of them. I am also an admirer of him for his selfless devotion to his autistic son whom he is raising as a single dad. He's just someone who genuinely cares about other people. Add to this the fact that he is a Nashville rebel and an icon of all that the present-day countrified version of pop music and its greedy music moguls that typify mainstream country would find abhorrent and it becomes pretty clear why I would have such high regard for him.

Much appreciated, fox. As I stated, I am much better looking than Steve. He does grow a better beard than I do however. :D ;)

I completely forgot about his being in The Wire. That show was awesome, due in part to how the background or smaller characters could grab your attention even if they weren't on for long.

So, hypothetically of course... if I wanted to start to discover everything that Steve Earle has to offer, where to I begin to avoid being overwhelmed with sheer awesomeness? I'm familiar with his first album, Copperhead Road and such. I'm also passively schooled in his show on Sirius. Where to go from here?
