As we are now firmly entrenched in Round 2, I have some random thoughts....
1. I realize that, with the field of contestants being whittled down to 50 from 196, there is bound to be a massive vote redistribution, which will cause some contestants to see fluctuations in their position. Conversely, and perhaps oddly, the top 5 positions have remained unchanged. I'm not suggesting that the condensed contestant field would cause them to be at the bottom of the list or anything such as this; however, I do find it difficult to believe that there has been no movement.
2. Though she was gaining ground as well as position toward the end of the first round, Nikki Nova appears to have faltered (hopefully temporarily) in her drive to make the top 20 and advance to the next round.
3. Puma Swede advanced to the second round and now sits on the bubble at #21...not bad for a contestant who hasn't posted anything on the boards since early January.
4. Worst of all is the fact that Miss Hybrid currently sits in the last spot of this round. At the end of Round 1, it looked as if she was moving into the next round riding a wave of support and would either make a good showing in this round or plausibly advance into round 3. Unfortunately, there is a definite worry that the support and necessary votes to get Miss Hybrid solidly into round 2 were just that: to get her into the next round. While this is indeed an accomplishment by itself, her current position appears to be evidence that this was the ultimate goal of many of her voters, instead of being a hurdle towards the final goal of winning. Given, there is always hope that she can build a winning coalition as she did previously, but with her current standing, making the top 20 seems like a vast undertaking.
