Firefox vs IE

I've never had a problem with FF,so I'm not gonna fuck around with Explorer.

I have Opera on my other computer, and it's just ok to me.It seems to be good against viruses,so I guess that's pretty good, but it seems to be really slow.

IE is full of exploits due to its wide use. firefox is a hell of a lot safer but getting popular as fuck. prepare to have exploits targeted for firefox, but until then, use firefox. no contest. need we say more?

IE is full of exploits because of its construction and operating system. This is exacerbated by its wide use but not the cause of it.Firefox does have vulnerabilities but i) they are much less problematical because FF isn't part of Windows and ii)patches are produced as soon as vulnerabilities are found.

This is like saying that I make the same journey every day so I don't need to fasten my seat belt. Some nasties come from innocent well run sites which have been got at.

IE is intrinsically MUCH less secure against infection than any other browser;that's a consequence of the way it operates.I favour FF because of the enormous range of addons available from image zoom, auto slideshow and noscript. It can be made to emulate IE too so there's never any need to use this malware magnet.
Though not perfect (what is?) the advantages of FF over IE make the discussion into a no brainer.

Don't forget that exploder is built into the core of the PC.

I've had to deal with the exploit issues far more than I care to think about in my last job. The thing is, that the reason there are so many flaws in IE is because Microsoft when it first started developing IE tried to push it off the same way they did with Windows, that is, you were supposed to pay for the software to use it. As a result, Microsoft programmers did what they quite often did, and that is create their own protocols, when the rest of the Internet community used another one (the one that universally accepted now). So when Microsoft has a vulnerability in IE, up to this point it's been them, and only them getting bug reports, virus reports, etc... and having to work their way through their own proprietary code to fix it. For me, the reason that I prefer Firefox is because they made the browser a community project. Even the very early builds of Firefox 1.0 was based of the W3 protocols of the time. That way, if there is a bug that needs fixing, Mozilla can deploy their programming team, or in many cases, there are people who work on it in their spare time, and submit updated versions for Mozilla to review.

Theres a new browser from google called Chrome, I havent used it but it seems pretty tight.

http://www.google.com/chrome

I like the minimalistic UI, I like the quick speed, I just hope they correct the ad-blocking properties in the browser. Right now, if a pop-up ad were to be displayed, Chrome would load the ad, just minimized in the corner of the page. That I could see as a problem down the road, but otherwise I am very impressed with Chrome.

and the exploiters targeted IE and searched for all those holes and vulnerabilities because why? it was worth their time.

everyone has IE on their computers. but now, they will be looking at getting through other browsers as they grow in popularity. yeah, windows has a bad wrap, but its great stuff. its just so popular that all exploiters have targeted it and have concentrated on getting through its security measures. if there was nothing but firefox out there, it would have been exploited to hell too.

again, firefox is awesome, but nothing is perfect. go with firefox, because its much more protected. no questions about it.

There's a point in Shayd's post which may be relevant-FF is a community project. The guys who like to attack IE (sometimes because they don't like MS and what it stands for) may be the same guys who plug the gaps in FF.I don't know, it's just a thought.

you gotta remember too, microsoft can afford the absolute best minds in computing. i think its really the popularity that got them.

I have a lower end Lenovo PC I bought at a discount- it should have XP as the OS, but has Vista. Had to ramp up the memory to 2GB. Which browser is better for Vista- Firefox or IE. Will Firefox make the browsing faster like it claims? Advantages/disadvantages of either? Thanks.

I have both, and Firefox is faster in almost every way......I rarely use IE at all.

That's why we have GNU/Linux ;)
