Vampire films.... hmmm....
Well, I like some, but part of the problem with them is that we got the whole "sexy anti-hero" thing bled into them, and that's what kills them for me. I like my vampires to be loathsome, villainous creatures that are the bad guy in the movie. To that end, I love a lot of the old Hammer Dracula movies, because there was never a doubt that you were rooting for Peter Cushing to end up saving the girl from Christopher Lee.
But the Hammer ones aren't really my favorites. I love "Fright Night", but mostly because of Roddy McDowell's character- Peter Vincent, the Great Vampire Killer!
So I guess, if I had to pick one favorite- it would be the old, 70's version of "Salem's Lot", which scared the hell out of me as a kid, and still has some scenes that scare me now. That fuckin' kid at the window...
