No offense, RKO!!!05. But this poll should actually be "
Favorite WWWFE Wrestler from the 'Rock 'n' Wrestlin'' or 'Attitude' eras." There are far too many wrestlers from other promotions and eras who would merit consideration for being part of this poll.
I know "other" covers a lot, but it also means they are sharing votes. Considering the list of wrestlers, I think it's incomplete at best without Ric Flair, particularly for those of us who saw him in WCW in the early-90s and during the territory days in the 80s.
Speaking of the territory days of the late-70s and early-80s, people who were living in certain areas likely had favorite wrestlers who were featured in their respective regions. One of my all-time favorites is Jerry Lawler during his 1980s Memphis run. This was long before his extremely annoying WWFE persona. The same statement I've made about Lawler could be made about Bob Armstrong (Alabama), Junkyard Dog, (Louisiana), Harley Race (Missouri), etc.
With regard to WCW, some have already mentioned Sting and Ricky Steamboat. They are two of the all-time great babyfaces. Though some would argue that Flair being such a great heel helped both of them tremendously. I think some mention of Rhodes, again, is also considerable at this point.
Also, I'd like to add the omission of any ECW wrestlers for consideration as substantial. No, they likely would not win or might not even do well in the poll, but ask any ECW fan from the 1990s about RVD, Shane Douglas, Taz (with one "z"), or Sabu, and they'll tell you that they easily rank with the WWWFE Superstars. And they'll likely offer you facts to support their statements and refute arguments about the comparison of the sizes of the promotions.
Still, considering all that does not even look at the possible ages of some board members or their historical understanding of professional wrestling. They may consider Lou Thesz, Dory Funk Jr., Jack Brisco, etc.
Finally, there are fans who just started watching in the last year. If they are hooked on Shelton Benjamin or AJ Styles, that's still far from the "other" category. Or what about those hardcore 1990s fans who watch now only for Chris Benoit or Eddie Guerrero?
I guess what I'm saying is that a list of eight is not enough from which to consider who is my favorite. I'd easily state that my favorite is not on that list or in the "other" category.
Nice idea for a poll... maybe even a better idea for a tournament.
Edit: And since you're a UKer, I just wanted to point out that the poll also overlooks some of your country's great contributions to professional wrestling: Big Daddy or Billy Robinson, Steven (William Regal) or Davey Boy Smith, or even Jodie Fleisch or Birchill.
