Favorite Westerns?

All Westerns start with this one at the top of the list...

Surprisingly, the most overrated Western is this one...

Valdez is Coming is an underrated Western, imo....

Rey C.

Racing is life... anything else is just waiting.
High Plains Drifter
Outlaw Josey Wales
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
Little Big Man (one of the most memorable movies I've ever seen)
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
Once Upon a Time in the West
Pale Rider
High Noon
Lonesome Dove miniseries
The Shootist (pitiful stunts, makeup, fake blood and all)

Probably several others that have slipped my mind.

Nobody mentioned Brokeback Mountain?!

It's not a Western. It's just a movie set in the West. I actually view it as an anti-American film. It seems that the movie rips apart the quintessential "American life"--finding a wife, settling down, having kids--and labels that lifestyle as empty and miserable.

Tombstone

A fist full of dollars. (This is my all time favourite Western film.)
For a few dollars more. (No it's this one.)
The good, the bad and the ugly. (Hell, seriously this is my Favourite.)
Unforgiven.
High Plains Drifter.
Pale Rider.
Once upon a time in the west.

My Penis Is Dancing!
When looking at the very tops, I have a tough time choosing between The Good, The Bad and The Ugly; or Once Upon A Time In The West. Sergio Leone was a freaking master at the western. I might have to chose Once Upon A Time...simply because of the beautiful scenery and the spectacular cast (Robards and Bronson were never better, and Claudia...wow). But Fonda stole the show.
Tombstone was a lot of fun.
The Wild Bunch had three remarkably strong scenes, including the final shootout.
High Noon was a great psychological examination...as well as the spectacular "Man Alone" shot.
And Unforgiven was breathtaking, and a great (seemingly) western swan song for one of the great western actors and directors.

Well spoken, Stan! I'd rep you if I could.
