Francis Ford Coppola is a much better director than Scorsese.
Sorry for opening the Scorsese can! :o
I just picked a director who has a) crtical standing (to a degree) and b) is a perfect example for a moviemaker directly influenced by other films.
He has lost his mojo after 1982 -
The King of Comedy being his last really good movie.
(and now thé fans of
Goodfellas and stuff may hook me off the stage)
My point was that taking the postmodern, eclectic road is not a criterion for quality.
Nobody proves that better than Steven Spielberg who is considered to be someone creating "original" or "fresh" images. Yet, alas! He is the most overrated director in movie history.
As for Tarantino:
Reservoir Dogs already was a mixed bag of quotes (he even stole the color/name scheme from one of my 70ies favorites
Pelham 1-2-3) But I deem Dogs as a true classic, superior to the highly entertaining
Pulp Fiction
Jackie Brown was okay. The others are shite :2 cents:
{P.S. Coppola hasn't done anything watchable since Apocalypse Now :tongue:}
