Your thief is my eclecticist...

Scorsese has also been borrowing heavily from the works of other great directors, but I wouldn't employ this fact as an argument against him.

You're assuming Scorsese is a good director? I think he's shit actually.

Tarrantino is a good director. Pulp Fiction might not be "ground-breaking" but it is a great film. Post-modern? But the best of Tarrantino's generation, in my opinion, is Chris Nolan.

I voted Reservoir Dogs. I love that movie. Pulp Fiction is one of those flicks that you appreciate more after watching multiple times. . . i thought it was over-ratred too, but I still like it. . . maybe i just heard too much hype about it before i finally saw it?!

ouch. that was nasty.
i strongly disagree. he's one of the best american directors of all-time, acording to millions.

If he was so great, SB, than why did it take forever for him to earn an Academy Award? I'll let you in on a little secret...the Academy has thought he was overrated for years! shhh! C'mon...are The Aviator and Gangs of New York great films? They were awful movies! Scorsese had to crank out another tired gangster flick to "earn his Directing Oscar"...he didn't even win for something fresh!

He's at the bottom of my list of Great American Directors for sure....

Kill Bill only good one

Fuck the Academy :2 cents:

Since when were they in charge of deciding what is a good movie?

Hardly any of my favourites have ever won an Oscar.

Hello Sexy girl how your Toes doing?
I have to say all the movies listed were great.. but I think PULP FICTION put QT on the map as a unique mind and manner of directing!! :hatsoff:

so... i guess Alfred Hitchcock is a moron too...
... and Charlie Chaplin, and Brian De Palma, and John Cassavetes and Cecil B. DeMille and Orson Welles and F.W. Murnau and Sidney Lumet and Stanley Kubrick and Tim Burton and George Lucas, Ridley Scott, David Lynch, Peter Weir, Akira Kurosawa, Barbra Streisand, Ingmar Bergman.

yeah, they all are BAD directors, 'cause they never got an oscar.

are The Aviator and Gangs of New York great films?

the Aviator sucks. big time. i'll give you that. but GONY? it was awesome, dude. a well-taught lesson of history of the USA. but hey, that's only my opinion. so, let's forget the hole thing.

i really enjoyed kill bill. good shit. pulp fiction is also very good. some good symbolism in that one.

We're talking about American directors here, right? Some of the people you mentioned aren't Americans and weren't good directors. Babs a director? She's a singer and hardly an actress, imo.

DePalma is not worthy of an Oscar. Ridley Scott--didn't he win for "Gladiator"? He is Oscar-worthy. David Lynch--he's still got time. George Lucas? Huh? He hasn't won an Oscar yet? If Spielberg has so soon shall George. Tim Burton still has time to win. I thought "Nightmare before Christmas" was Oscar worthy. Can't say "MArs Attacks" or "Edwards Scissorhands" were. He has time. He is talented.

GONY was nothing more than a knife-fetisher's film. It was hardly "historical." "Historically-imagined" is probably more accurate.

Art Criticism is controversial. The Academy Award is the highest cinematic honor in America (who cares about the World!)...and not everyone truly great will win one.

I don't believe any director in contemporary American cinema has ever had a higher reputation than Scorsese. I don't feel "bad" for his "snub."

Francis Ford Coppola is a much better director than Scorsese.

The Departed was grossly overrated, as long as we're discussing Scorsese. I couldn't believe it won the best picture Oscar. Taxi Driver is the best thing he's ever done by far.

you know those award shows have little to do with the movie itself being art, its a fucking fashion show. whos dating who, whats she wearing, blah blah blah.

Pulp Fiction and Resevoir Dogs. Voted for both.

Only seen parts of Kill Bill and Kill Bill vol 2 and have never seen Death proof or whatever its called.

Squallumz. Hint: Don't watch the E! Preshow Red Carpet mess. If ever there was a single reason to destroy Hollywood--the fact that Ryan Seacrest has a powerful voice of authority is it.

Don't let Ryan Seacrest or "Gossip" cloud your appreciation for great American cinema!!!
