Favorite Punk Bands?

haha. street cred? no one gives a shit about those bands...

...except for the people that actually like them. Sure it's not really the greatest form of music, but it has an energy of it's own. It's just another one of those things that you either get or you don't.

Is somewhere outhere.
Sex Pistols will always be my favourites with The Clash,Ramones and
The Buzzcocks coming close.

In this day of age Alkaline Trio,Nofx and Rancid are my faves. But I would
say the Trio are the best out of the 3 :)

Bad Brains
Black Flag
Bad Religion
Sex Pistols
D.R.I
Cocksparrer
The Clash
The Ramones
L7
Suicidal Tendencies
Agnostic Front
Buzzcocks
Social Distortion
Dead Kennedys
The Queers
Richard Hell and the Voidoids
The Circle Jerks

the misfits, bad religion, pennywise, against all authority, nofx, dead kennedys, dropkick murphys, flogging molly, choking victim, millencolin, propagandhi, no use for a name, rancid, social distortion, the vandals, black flag...and probably more i can't think of right now

NAKED RAYGUN (Chicago based band, formed in 1980)
IF YOU HAVEN'T HEARD THEM, STOP AND CHECK THEM OUT!!!!

From 1985's "Throb Throb"
"I Don't Know"

From 1988's "Jettison" - the first album I ever owned, of any band.
Their songs range from melodic to hardcore.
"Soldier's Requiem"

"Vanilla Blue"

From 1989's "Understand?"
"Treason"

I also want to mention Discharge. A great hardcore punk band. Probably the heaviest, angriest sounding punk band of their time, and definitely by today's punk standards.

Also...
The Misfits (old and new...mostly old, Danzig era)
Samhain (Danzig's next band, before 'Danzig')
Son of Sam (side project of the singer from A.F.I., and I'm not an A.F.I. fan)
Tiger Army (a punk band with a stand-up bass? sure!)
S.O.D. (Stormtroopers of Death)...although, they're more Crossover Thrash

I hate the subject because, although I've been a huge fan of some punk since I can remember, I never pretended to be "in" the scene or even know what is and isn't punk on the punk standard.

Is Guitar Wolf Punk? Peelander Z? Are The Nekromantix, Meteors, Tiger Army, Teengenerate and The Cramps punk? What about Horrorpops, The 5,6,7,8s? I say so, but some say psycobilly or horror punk is it's own thing. Shonen Knife? People write them off as J-pop punk, but they've been around since 1981. A female Japanese punk band that's been around for nearly 30 years isn't "punk" enough to carry the punk banner for some people.

There's either this fake exclusionary snobbery bullshit with "real" punk fans or there's this group of suburban kids who wear a $35 CBGBs T-shirt and eyeliner and think they're "keeping punk alive" because they've memorized all the scenes in Sid and Nancy.

Anyway, The Ramones and Misfits have always been a huge staple of my music listening. I don't think that will ever change. Minor Threats still gets a lot of play. I never was a fan of The Sex Pistols or The Clash.

Btw, speaking of Misfits, Danzig's new Deth Red Sabaoth is actually pretty good. Probably the best Danzig album in years...which really isn't saying much.

It's pretty much the same situation as in Metal. There will never be a 'be all, end all' answer and no agreement to what is or isn't "true" punk.
It's been around since the 70's so in that time it has branched off into all these different subgenres, mixing with other forms of music. So the purists want to say it's not real. It is. Fuck 'em. ;)

It's like Ghostbusters, man. DO NOT CROSS STREAMS! Some Matt Pinfield-looking douche bag's head will explode. Or I guess in punk's case, some Anthony Bordain-looking douche bag.

I thought this band had a good sound

Great cover by Husker Du.
Listened to this a million times in high school.
If you like good music, play it loud.
