Nirvana is not punk, imo. The Clash,The Ramones, and The Sex Pistols shouldn't even be in the sentence as the rest of this list, and The Offspring and Blink-182 are the worst thing this Earth has seen since Adolf Hitler.

I also like punk sub-genres a lot, psychobilly stuff like Nekromantix or the Cramps, ska like the Specials or Streetlight Manifesto, Celtic-punk like the Pogues or Dropkick Murphys.

The Stooges, Iggy Pop is a rock god. And this was his best period.

I remember I went to see Iggy and the stooges on new years eve 1973 in NY.The bands on the bill were.
Blue Oyster cult
Iggy
And two other bands we had never heard of,those being called "Teenage lust" and "Kiss".

Teenage lust was funny lol with 3 chicks dancing around on stage but Kiss was obviously somebody we noticed and really rocked the house.I remember Gene had some device on his arm that shot like a firework over the audience. But then one he shot didn't go off until it hit somebody in the audience and the guy was like in flames and screaming and was taken out.We figuered well thats the last we will see of them as they will be sued big time lol.But 2 weeks later there was an ad in the paper showing them playing in barn like place in Asbury park,NJ for $2.50 general admission. We got there early to get on line for good seats(we got front row) and when Kiss showed up they hung out with us and ate hot dogs on the boardwalk with us lol. That was before they had any records out yet,man those were cool times.Kiss was really good then before they became real big and started catering to a younger audience.

yay, pop-punk doesn't necessarily suck.

do you mean only one you like or only one band that can be called punk? I seem to recall that like the sex pistols, the Ramones never actually called themselves a punk band.

ChefChiTown

The secret ingredient? MY BALLS
The only reason that a lot of people say that the Sex Pistols are the best punk band is because they feel like they have to. Just because they helped "originate" the music doesn't necessarily mean that they were the best.

Personally, I think Rancid is the best. But, that's just me.

I think they both suck, but to each his own.

Well Rancid is Ok, but they strike me as chumps. Lint has lost his mind, lars fredricksen is a joke, and matt mccool should have quit that band because he's the best musician in the bunch and doesn't get any recognition.

Jesse was smart to break up operation Ivy at the height of it's success because he knew that it would just turn into a crappy mediocre band that was nothing but a commercial, in other words Rancid.

PS. Life Won't wait is a pretty great album, too bad that everyone hated it because it was creative and artistic and not just re churned pop-formula. it's a shame.

Facetious

The God Awfuls, some of the early Pretenders stuff, Wendy O W and the usual suspects. No ! not a band called the usual suspects, although that would be a killer name for a band, just the usual household punk bands, ya know ? !

I like most all music
After all, it is artistic expression in it's purist form, unlike the "works" of some random drunken jack ass who simply pees on a crucifix, a buddha or freshly caught carp, as it were.
